I always carry plug converters, which weigh almost nothing, and a power bank, so all I need in addition to the keyboard is a cord, which only weighs a few grams.
Your keyboard is much larger than mine and might be easier to type on, but does weigh 100gr more.
Calvin Fletcher, for many of us older North Americans the godfather of hiking/backpacking/camping, titled his book The Complete Walker. He did remarkably challenging wilderness walks, including walking (some rafting) the entire length of the Colorado River from its source to the Gulf of Mexico...
We've walked about 3,500 miles of pilgrimages since 2013. I start plan for the next one shortly after I get home. For me, the planning turns a 30 - 90 day walk into a year round adventure.
We’re stayed at Orisson twice and both dinners were great. The terrace is wonderful. I’d get there on the early side so you can enjoy a beer and watch the birds soaring over the Pyrenees.
You can shower for as long as you like. Only the hot water is limited to 5 minutes, which is perfectly...
I am 70 and always use Squaremouth.com, which always offers me lots of choices; so many that comparing them is a bit difficult. They allow you to pick policies to compare and, once you get the hang of it, the compare feature is very useful.
I just used Squaremouth for some friends in their...
My experience with "the lightest rain gear you can buy" was disastrous.
Before my first Camino, I looked into ponchos and rain jackets extensively, and thought they were awfully heavy. I then discovered super light weight ponchos, the kind you carry in your glove compartment for emergencies...
A thought on Le Puy: You may need more restraint to lose weight than on other Caminos.
I've done the Camino Frances in its entirety twice. Each time I lost some weight - probably between 5 and 10 pounds. This was without any self restraint - a fair amount of beer and wine whenever I felt like...
As I recall, passport was scanned when I boarded, but not when I got off and got back on in Malaga. Not sure if this is what always happens, but I think your analysis is correct since it is at a passport scanning that the days in the zone would be counted.
What I'm trying to figure out, though...
Thanks!
My other question was this. Entered on day 1. Planned to catch a ship back to the US on day 90. But, the ship left Barcelona on day 1 of the voyage, spent day 2 of the cruise at sea and arrived in Malaga on day 3 of the cruise. Does this mean passengers left the Shengen Zone on day 1 of...
My question last summer was: flight arrives in Reykjavík at 11:54pm on July 27. Passport stamped at 12:27 on the 28th. Was my day 1 the 27th or the 28th? I'd have played it safe planning my departure and counted the 27th as day one, but didn't realize Iceland was in the Shengen zone. I had...
I have to admit that I spend a lot of time researching equipment; I read just about all the gear threads in this forum. I call it planning, but it is really just a way of enjoying my Caminos year round! Right now, I'm obsessing over Arn packs. Doubt I'll buy one in the near future, but it sure...
dougfitz's point is well taken: a track with few points might be a track someone extracted from a larger file. But again, it might not be. A very dense track, however, will be one which was actually walked or biked by someone, and, at least for me, is more useful and more reliable. I'd always...
If the track consists of a point or two per kilometer, with straight lines between points, it is a track someone plotted on a map, not a track recorded by someone walking it and using a GPS unit to record it. I would try not to use this sort of track; actual conditions on the ground may be very...
Ah, but in those few cases it sure is nice to know where you went wrong and how to get back on track. It's also nice to be able to compare the distance of a "solution" to the distance of backtracking.
My plans in 2013 for the CF (I had every stop worked out for 35 days and all alberques chosen) worked perfectly until Roncesvalles. Couldn't walk as far as I had planned on day 3, at which point my plan went defunct. Continued without any plan and had a great Camino.
Currently four days out of...
If you are American, be prepared to learn that Europeans are generally a whole lot less concerned with modesty than we are. You do not need to sleep or walk around in your underwear (or less), but lots of people, men and women, do. After a long day walking, no one pays much attention.
