    Newly minted EU citizen

Though it’s nice to have a couple of languages, but not too many :)

    Newly minted EU citizen

I of course know that, but it is a short hand that most folks generally understand to mean a passport from one of the EU member countries.

    Newly minted EU citizen

Hi Mirta thanks! I think, at least with respect to US-Polish dual citizenship, unless I were to reside in Poland, I wouldn't have to pay any taxes there (I don't know if that would be the case if i owned any property there, but I don't, so that's a moot point). That said, you would have to pay...

    Newly minted EU citizen

Hi all - I don't know where else to post this, but this looks like as good as any forum to do so - So, now that I have my EU passport, I'm curious to know whether there are any 'perks' (other than not worrying about the ninety day limit for staying in the EU and avoiding the non-EU line(s) at...

In praise of Motel Truckstops on the Camino

Then there are those godawful ones too, though… and I’ve experienced a few of those as well.

Is it okay to want to walk the Frances alone?

It’s the best way to go!

    I have lost myself

You are right that it only really sinks in after it’s over, though for me, it sinks in the right way. I think the reason for the delayed reaction is because normally, if you do a long one day hike, you can go to bed that night and let the day’s activities replay themselves like a movie, but...

Is it a "Saunter" or a "Hike"? Our Pilgrimages.......

    Definitely a stroll

Poll Where do you come from?

    That’s a long way from Tipperary! (I couldn't resist)

    Jesus and the Money Lenders

The church/chapel doors are far more open along the Chemin St Jacques in France than has lately been the case on many of the caminos in Spain. My understanding is that it has to do with an increase in thefts, but I may be mistaken.

How would you rank the Caminos by difficulty?

    A tip - don't overthink this!

How would you rank the Caminos by difficulty?

    The meseta is fantastic!

How would you rank the Caminos by difficulty?

The vdlp (including sanabres) may be my favorite walk of all. Absolutely not boring or monotonous. More meseta than the frances, but the meseta itself is wonderful.

Is there any elitism between pilgrims taking different routes?

The elitists I’ve met brag how light their loads are on the trail - kind of a reverse machismo (as in, deprecatingly, "we never carry more than __ kgs") Also, those who love to make it known how fast they can walk the various caminos/chemins. And finally, those who love name dropping the ones...

Cool old article about long distance walkers

Happy to share! Around NYC, where I live, there's also a group called Freewalkers, and they specialize in 25 mile plus walks (and the occasional 50-miler, as well). They just did the Kennedy walk from Washington, DC to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia a couple of weeks ago, in fact.

    Nationalities on the Camino

Not to put a damper on things, and not to sound jingoistic, but I take issue with anyone having 'equal' loyalties to more than one country It is one thing to have dual nationality by birth, and if dual nationality can help with residence and allow one to remain and work in Europe (or elsewhere)...
