I met my Camino ‘family’ late into my two month pilgrimage (autumn 2016). By then we were all ‘seasoned’ walkers & were able to separate when needed (sometimes just during the day; other times maybe one stopping earlier than the others & staying in a different village).
The last week, walking...
I walked with a Canadian lady (Lucy) in 2016 and she too abstained during her Camino. We celebrated her first glass of wine when we met up in Finisterre. Unfortunately, I was not as strong minded as her ;)
. Finishing my Canino Frances in a couple of days. I've been walking since 1 October, & wore my Maabi skirt every day. I've found it to be brilliant for walking (& especially for pee stops!). Would never walk now in anything else. But it's not fashionable :p
@KinkyOne, in the summer of 2015, I was suffering from something similar (with similar pains/ numbness/ etc) & was actually on crutches for 2-3 months. Various back injections helped, but also I had to be patient (NOT easy for me!).
It did take several months to get over it, but get over it, I...
@Smallest_Sparrow, Wow that took guts posting this.
Please please continue to be involved in this forum. As others have said, we all have our moments of putting our feet in our mouths & saying something that is controversial or might be taken as controversial, but that doesn't detract from...
I've always tried to teach my children that whilst they cannot be in control of how others act, they can be in control of how they react to the actions of others (I also try to follow this myself - not always easy!).
Buen Camino Suzanne :-)
Thanks a million @Tia Valeria, I'll be back in the UK at the end of this month visiting my family in Kent, so I can order one (in fact I'll probably order two as they are soooooooo useful). My mother has had a nifty inhaler (similar but without the nozzle part) for donkey's years and I've...
Our daily lives are so full of information and input, that many of us are uncomfortable if we're not receiving constant stimulation (smartphones are a major culprit!).
Walking the Camino is a fantastic opportunity to learn to meditate or to get better at it if you already do meditate. At first...
For getting around in London, download the 'Citymapper' app. It's really worth it.
And don't forget Airbnb for finding accommodation. I've just down a search in London Heathrow vicinity and it gives a range of places for different prices ( starting around 30€ a night - sorry my app is based in...
It's poignant that I'm sitting curled up in my mother's favourite chair, in her house, at 6:30 in the morning reading your words, Lee, because I'm waiting for all my siblings to wake up so that we can prepare to say goodbye to our beloved mother this afternoon; first at church and then at the...
I'll never forget when my two nephews drove down through France (from the UK) to visit me in the Haute Savoie (an easy 800 km trip using well sign posted motorways). On their return home, their stepfather asked what route they had taken and what departments they had driven through. Their...
Given the unfortunate recent spate of terrorist attacks - not only here in France, but also in other EU countries - you never know when a spot check might be carried out. I live on the Swiss French border & every now and then the 'flying squad' will descend on a small border post (or a km or so...
