    Non-Catholic on the Camino

Likewise, I feel strongly compelled too walk without fully understanding why and that's ok for me and I don't care what others think...it no one else business. It was really interesting for me to be asked by the Hospiteliero at Fuenterroble on the VLDP 'why are you walking'. I had no answer and...

Not Camino... but I don't know where else to ask

I'm sorry for your loss LesBrass. Like many writing above I have difficult family relationships too. Today I finished the VLDP and Sanabres. Has been wonderful. But an especially wonderful moment was when I asked the two men I was walking with their advice. My father is 85. He has six children...

What is the most unusual thing you have seen on any Camino?

This is probably my weirdest find. I'm no prude but this is a step too far for me. Is the women's toilet in the brand new bar beside the new albergue at El Carracalejo

Where is a good place for a rest week?

Thanks everyone. I think the 'crisis' is averted and the rest I've had and realisation that the causation of my foot pain is as simple as my shoe being too tight means I can go on and not take a rest week...very much hoping so. Really appreciate all these ideas and may try to go to some of them...

Where is a good place for a rest week?

Currently on the Sanabres having walked from Seville but have developed a problem with my right foot that is sadly not improving quickly I think the best course of action is to take a week out and rest - I'm not under a lot of time pressure so I can come back to the route if it resolves after...

    Avoiding the breakfast trap?

I've not like the albergue breakfasts at all. They are always from my experience a packaged bun/toast with a very long use by date which under normal circumstances I'd never eat. I carry some granola when I can get it, buy a coffee and orange juice and when I finish the coffee I use the cup to...

    ATM's in Spain

Does anyone know if all the Spanish ATM's charge to get money out of them? I'm not talking about what my own bank charges me for the transaction but what the Spanish banks charge me to use their ATM's. I'm used to some charging and some not but so far have not found a Spanish ATM that doesn't...

    What is a Pilgrim/What is a Pilgrimage?

And perhaps a PS too. I've deliberately chosen not to walk the main route simply because I know my outrage button would be triggered more than I would like or be able to cope with and my 'evolved' self would quickly give way to my less attractive outraged one! There are plenty of places to be...

    What is a Pilgrim/What is a Pilgrimage?

This conversation is about the Camino and pilgrims/pilgrimages but might just as easily be about any number of other ethical or moral dilemmas that create a sense of outrage in us. Outrage is something I've frequently felt at injustice, unfairness, stupidity, meanness, thoughtlessness, greed...

Via de la Plata - downloadable GPS Maps

Hi Ritaj I'm walking the VDLP starting March 1st or 2nd. I'm pretty technologically challenged too! I've downloaded an app called Peregrino Online. I paid for the version I got but it wasn't much...a few ££. It is in several languages - language tabs at the bottom of the screen. Its pretty easy...
