I just got back a month ago from walking the Camino from SJPP to Finisterre and I would have to say that all of the alberques were fine. The difficulty often with the alberques was the unnecessary noise generated by the pilgrims - disregarding posting saying no phones, silence and no loud...
I would like to mention that when training it is important to hike up hills to engage those upper leg muscles they are not much used when walking on flat terrain. Also to train in a mountainous/hilly area to give your feet an understanding of where to place your foot next. That can be mentally...
Across from the cathedale of santiaglo there is the hotel Hospedería San Martín Pinario
I would appreciate your comments from anyone who has stayed at this hotel or who has considered staying at this place. They also mention they have a dorm for 20E - what is that like? Also what was your...
I was a lapse Catholic of 25 years when I did my confession at a retreat. Afterward I was surprised because I sensed a weight being lifted off of my shoulders.
life is truly an interior journey
walking the camino alone
I walked on the Camino in the month of May. I didn't encounted any problems but I am 50 years old. There were a number of young woman walking solo. People walking solo are the minority. And there was a fair number of people on the camino. Also, walking from 6:30 am...
sore foot
If you don't have two walking sticks consider getting some.
I had mix feelings when I got mine but they have proved to be most helpful in tackleing hills and uneven terrain. If I have a knee that is acting up the nordic poles take the weight and reduce the fatique.
La Virgen del camino
Thanks guys - I will certainly let you know about it when I return.
Now that I know I can get a stamp in a couple of places at La Virgen del Camino I will fill out my application for my credential stating this will be the town for my point of departure.
Thank you for...
I will be arriving by plane on May 8th in La Virgen del Camino late afternoon. This small airport is 6 kms west of Leon.
There is no refuge (that I know of) in this town but there is a well known modern church built in the 60's (that pilgrims can get a stamp). If I get a stamp from this...
Rob,
Next time I bellow a tune out-of-tune - I will laugh remembering your how the sound of music kept you going and going and going ...
I did a good hike today (22 km) with two friends in the Gatineau hills and we managed to get over one wicked climb of hill on the way back by, out of the...
Thank you for your advice,
I am a Christian/Catholic. Praising this world with its mix bag of nature wonder and mess is what gives me a passion and a closeness to God.
I delight in the idea of being able at times to sing and dance as a small child would - putting aside body pain...
Thanks Trudy,
I think you are right.
In the next couple of months I will finalize when I will be there and then things will fall into what it should be.
I am a strong believer of the buddy system - two heads or more are always better than one.
Gatineau Gypsy
Hi,
I have spoken people and read on blogs that when reaching the Cathedral many pilgrims have a sense of lost.
Is this part of the experience? Or is there a way to prepare yourself from being yank out of living in the present and being thrown into this confusion.
Gatineau Gypsy
Hi again
I have never meet a good priest that wasn't restless and stubborn. You sound like you love God's people and have a forgiving heart. Being Christian for me is a humbling experience - not because it is a mostly a secular world but because of the hurt and pain inflicted daily in the...
leon may 13
Hi,
Thanks for the invitation. That is very good of you.
I have not purchased my airline tickets yet. Because of the heat in Spain I was originally thinking of leaving Canada on May 1st and returning home before the last week of May. I am a pretty easy going quiet person...
Hi,
My name is Carole. And I am thinking of starting my camino in Leon in the beginning of May. I am looking to do the camino with another woman - for safety reasons. I am 50 years old and can do 15 - 20 km a day. My question is there someone who is interested in doing this with me?
