I was having a particularly bad day of pain and rain and blisters (week two into my six weeks) and that day I had to stop every kilometer to get the stones out of my shoes. An Australian Angel I had never met before nor ever saw again gave me his gaitors. I thanked him every single day for the...
I would start in St Jean and walk as you want, stop when you want, stay where you want, walk with who you want. Stop and smell the roses. The goal is not Santiago imho... it's experiencing the million wonderful things along The Way. Buen Camino.
I have a hip problem which I thought would be an issue. Walking with poles ensured I engaged my core muscles whilst walking and my hip didn't give me one iota of a problem the whole 700+ kms. I swear by them. Know how to use them properly though. I saw so many people using them badly to a point...
Worth it! You can probably get it cheaper if you shopped around. I'd never seen it before and saw it in a Camino shop in Pamplona. Really glad I bought it.
I bought one of these in Pamplona. Best thing ever! I attached it to a 1.5 litre Vittel bottle which went in a pouch on the side of my pack. Didn't have to take the pack off to drink. Filled it up at fountains. Replaced the bottle every now and then. Didn't have to worry with Camelback bladders...
I did Orisson to Roncesvalles in 30-40m visibility. Was completely on my own for most of the day until the St Jean front runners caught up and overtook. It was quite simply one of the most serene and beautiful days of my life. I think about it often.
I made tiny little bottles of shampoo and conditioner last 6 weeks when I thought they'd last 2 max. (I have very long hair and washed it almost every night). It's amazing what you can make do with on the Camino.
LOL, I was so hungry and exhausted at the end of each day I didn't care what was on the menu. It was what was on offer and all part of the experience ;-)
Take your time and enjoy it. St Jean is beautiful. St Jean to Orison is gorgeous. Orison to Roncesvalles was one of my favourite days. If you can't get in to Orisson for the night 20 euros will get you a cab from Orisson back to St Jean and you can cab it back in the morning, still splitting the...
Have spent 4 days in Santiago letting it all sink in. Tonight I'll take the overnight sleeper to Madrid which will be the first time I've used any form of transport in nearly 7 weeks. If it wasn't so cold and wet I'd be walking there. ;-) Thank you Camino. I will be back! Xxx
Thanks Richard. I'm into the last 200 kms now. We've had such brilliant weather, I feel truly blessed! I often think about what you said about the Camino only really starting at the end and can relate to that now. It's calling me back already and I haven't even finished it. What a magnificent...
I am LOVING IT LOVING IT LOVING IT! This is a magnificent experience! I'm having a rest day in Logrono today. Feet are absolute troopers! 3 small blisters yesterday after 2 back to back days of 22 kms. I forwarded my pack for the first 3 days but have been carrying since Zubiri. I'm a snail, but...
LOL. Thanks Al. At the moment I'm so stressed trying to get everything done. I'm not only going on the Camino, I'm shipping everything back to South Africa. This time tomorrow I'll be officially homeless. Although I prefer the term homeward bound (via the CdS) :-) All change :-)
Wonderful. Thanks Vivello. I really hope PF isn't going to end this for me. I'm reading everything I can to help manage it if it is. How are you holding up? Buen camino! Yay. That's the first time I've said that :-)
Wow. So many wonderful messages of encouragement and support. I feel Camino blessed already! Thank you everyone. Truly.
I ran out today to get some softer insoles and last bits and pieces. I'll give the new insoles a better test tomorrow morning but so far they feel good. Tonight... shredding...
