    Hi Ronald, if you've been there before I'd say walk straight through. Or stay at an albergue close to Santiago and walk through very early in the morning if you want to see the cathedral etc.

    I'm sorry to hear it's so difficult there. I've only queued up for two compostelas, my first camino and another time with a friend when it was very quiet. The compostela is nice to have, but the misery and loss of peace involved in getting it meant I decided it wasn't worth it for the other times.

    I agree with you Ian. I have been to Santiago many times, and it's not an easy place. Maybe Santiago is an anticlimax after all the joys and hard work of the Camino? We can have lots of expectations about camaraderie, rest and welcome after all the challenges. I think it helps to be realistic...

    I saw the monument again a few months ago, it was very dilapidated and fenced off. I find it ugly and would like to see it removed from it's present location.     Winter Camino Frances?

    Winter is the only time to walk the Camino de Frances, it's quiet and peaceful. The sections through Rioja and Castilla y Leon are beautiful in winter. However, the VdP in winter is amazing and warm, I guess the Mozarabic would be similar.

    CF is my "home camino" but I only walk it in winter when it's quieter. Every time I go back it's wonderful, but the other sections of other Caminos are also wonderful.

    Which part to walk in two weeks?

    Walking the CF: start from St Jean Pied is lovely. For me that's the most beautiful section, and then next time do the next sections. Galician paths will be crowded, and Santiago will be heaving. August and first half of September will be very hot. Bilbao to Gijon is pretty spectacular too.

    The Meseta is wonderful. I recommend relishing every moment of it. It's an experience which is very special. If you go into it rushing and expecting it to be horrible, then you will get nothing out of it. Approach the Meseta with awe, look for the beauty, and you will find it.
