I'm booked through to Pamplona fortunately, and a night in Borda and hopping over Roncesvalles. I've also allowed an extra night to get to SJPDP in case of delays, so should be OK. Roncesvalles will still have "unbookable" beds available each day.
Thank you for your reassuring words. I start on 25 April and I aspire to be as relaxed as you. It will take a lot of effort for me just to stop planning. I'm booked as far as Pamplona.
Oh speaking of the cold, I'm bringing a few of those hand warmer sachet things. They are very lightweight...
I start on 25 April from SJPDP and I look like my avatar - but 5 years older. ;) I'll be carrying a NZ flag badge. The long range weather forecast looks great through to Espinal. Nothing extreme.
Question about the top bunks - I've heard some people prefer them? I would be scared of...
Hi - I'm walking about the same time as you and coming from NZ. Since it's a long way, and I might be pretty tired upon arrival, I've booked through to Pamplona. After that I will wing it, or plan a day at a time. By then I will have "learned the ropes".
I've just finished reading a book...
Hopefully this is allowed, but I intend to approach my local basilica or maybe the City Council, and ask them for a stamp, ie my camino starts from my home town which is Invercargill, New Zealand (which is 19,100km away as the bird flies).
Thanks @DoughnutANZ - some really good information there I hadn't thought of! I bought a new phone yesterday so I feel a bit more "modern" now. Still have to set it up for NZ, then start adding in camino apps and all the little trinkets I think I will need.
It is $4,000 for me, from NZ including travel insurance. I've planned my accommodation up to and including Pamplona. As this is my first Camino I have no idea how far I will walk every day. Other than SJPDP to Pamplona being planned, all I know is that I start in SJPDP on 25 April and I leave...
@DonutANZ - if you go dual SIM and for example keep your NZ 2 Degrees account still going, I'm guessing you would have to pay roaming fees for the NZ account? I wish I was more "tech informed".
Hi - another one here starting on 25 April! I have researched this topic before, and I guess the answer really depends on your personal thermometer and opinion. I tend to get cold easily. I will be sleeping in mostly private auberges and maybe once a week a basic solo room. I'm taking my 600...
Exactly what I have done. I have heard so many good things about this place that I didn't want to miss it. I can confirm that Laurent is very responsive with emails.
Hi - I'm not sure if you are able to access a podiatrist with sound wave treatment? I had the dreaded plantar fasciitis for over a year after long distance running. Middle of the night toilet trips were like walking on Lego! I went to the podiatrist and he had a sound wave machine and the...
Thank you everyone for your help. Very handy to know about the weather aspects/alternatives too! It is interesting planning when I don't know the "lay of the land". After Pamplona I will be free ranging, but the earlier accomodation is going to be planned.
I have contacted Laurent at Borda...
Hi I'm walking from SJPDP on 24 April 2024 and I'm keen to get a booking that night at Borda. (My intention is to shorten the first day from SJPDP). I can see Borda is taking bookings at the moment as far as October 2023, so is it my understanding correct that they only take bookings 2 months...
My hearing is terrible in loud places, add in some foreign language / accents and I'm a bit scared of what I'll get, or that I will offend someone. Thanks for the question Karen. Looks like I'll be doing some research!
Having not walked the Frances Way before, can someone describe the surface of this section of track? It is loose shale, slippery clay or maybe something else? It does sound precarious!
(I'm thinking of using Asics Kayanos, a top running shoe, but has fairly slick undersole).
Hi Izzy - well done on considering the camino! I would wholeheartedly agree with utilising the luggage transfer scheme. Don't let anyone shame you, or tell you otherwise. This is your camino, and other people can walk it their way.
Hi JanelK! Welcome to the forum. I'm a newbie and asked a similar question about a fortnight ago. I got lots of helpful answers, so maybe have a look. I've been looking at this forum extensively since! Not sure what is calling me, but it sure is loud! I feel I'll get the answer when I get...
