I have stayed in both, my favorite was Fresneda. I had a small very comfortable room which was just enough, not too much. The church was in process of being restored, quite beautiful. I felt more atmosphere there than in the “chicken church“ parador.
For a special experience go to San Millan...
I was one of the unsung hero students who made the upper half of the class possible. I do distinctly remember that in 1974 one of my professors did talk about the Camino, but the whole thing went right over my head. Oh to have been a student then and walked the Camino with Gitlitz!
You can "do" the Camino in 28 days, you can embrace it in 42 days. The more time you spend......
Likewise the Aragones, it is plotted out as 6 days. I walked it in 13 days and still had to go back to find the dolmen!
Hello from a fellow Fort Worther and a native of Sacramento and the beautiful Sierras, SlyPark and Grizzly Flats. A virtual hug for you in your travels!
I would suggest taking the variant south of Najera to San Millan de la Cogolla and the two monasteries there. It is the home of the first written Spanish. The new monastery dates from the 1700's, the old from the 600's. dates approxinate. I have walked there twice, highway walking but not...
Fr. Jeff, I could have written your post! I am fine but my dear walking companion has been having severe pain with his back and hips! We are both loving the trip, the vino, the kindness of the Spanish people, but the pain is too much! We are very much looking forward this week to two nights...
Father Jeff, I am currently on the Aragones with my walking companion in Monreal doing my “long version”, this time minus the sailplane ride. We are having a tinto while discussing our favorite places, Arres tops the list so far! Muy buen Camino! I finally got to see the Witches Caves and...
Another suggestion, remove your hat when you are walking near dogs. My own experience near home and what dog owners in Spain have told me is that some dogs are afraid of people wearing hats. What concerns me about a few of the responses on this thread is that while you might succeed in scaring...
On a practical note, is there a particular kind of mask specified or recommended by the Spanish government, or may we wear whatever will cover our mouth and nose?
I agree with @amancio , I have arrived at the Pamplona train station and stepped right out the front door and easily got a taxi to SJPdP. At the time the cost was 100 euros which I shared with my daughter. The driver was wonderful at giving us lots of information and showing us the sights as...
My first time crossing that bridge I had to wait until another pilgrim could cross with me holding my hand. The second time I got very brave and crossed all by myself!
I apologize if I missed someone's post, I am going to make a correction to the identification of the location of Rappahannack's bridge, it is at Canfranc, not Canfranc Estacion two different places.
A few years ago I stayed in an albergue where a fellow peregrina, a yoga instructor, led an impromptu stretching "class" in the evening. It was wonderful! Most albergues have some space that could work for a small group to stretch together if you would like to share. Just start and you will...
My perspective comes from being a teacher for a good number of years. I would prefer to have a student tell me that they do not know something so I can help them learn rather than pretend that they know when they do not. By the way, I appreciate that you all are sharing your perspectives...
Last evening I attended a talk intended for people who are interested in walking the Camino. It was not a good talk, the woman spoke only in generalities with no current knowledge, for example she did not know why next year is a Holy Year, she asked me as a member of the audiece. Then she...
The Aragones: Somport to Jaca except for the part near Castiello de Jaca where I fell on my face. Beautiful mountains and the many hundreds of years of history represented.
