    Help getting lodging past Sarria

This Xunta De Galicia site provides information on the network of public albergues along each walking route within Galicia. This is the link to both private and public albergues. This link also provides a more graphical way to access the same information via google maps. A peregrino who...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Yes, benches are for sitting. Why would you distinguish between locals or any person in need of a place to rest?

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Initially I was surprised at the 80%, but "up to" leaves a very wide range, thus raising questions about the use of statistics. I avoid that section of the Camino Frances - a least during tour bus season. Too many day packs on benches that many of us need to rest.

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Avoid tour group season? Switch to a less busy Camino for the last 100 km? Waking, cycling...the last 100 to SdC is only a requirement to collect a certificate. There is a big difference between a Pilgrimage and collecting a certificate or merit badge. But his statement that "luggage or...

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

The three solo Peregrinas I've met who slept outside did so out of necessity. In one case she had been on a true pilgrimage for 6-7 months when I met her, one cold and stormy night, partially summarized here and here. The second Peregrina had challenges with claustrophobia. She had been...

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Yes, I learned to read in parochial school. My point was that it is not clear that the OP was obviously planning. I congratulate the OP again for making the best of their situation.. Have you ever done a half day, when continuing further would require walking another 20 or more km. Several of...

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Congrats on your achievement, and lesson learned. Reminded me of a person I met who walked 43 km one day in 2020, but that's a different story. He eventually recovered from the strained adductors. Despite the rants above, I don't think this is overly complicated. Is this not like walking past...

Where is the most reliable accommodation information?

With few exceptions, the most reliable sources are the Hospitalera and Albergue operators with who you are staying. They almost always know who is open in the next couple of stages and can provide recommendations, names and phone numbers. If the Hospitalera is not helpful then the next most...

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

We were lucky to happen upon Semana Santa festivities in Burgos, purely by chance. There was certainly no careful planning! Semana Santa processions are events not to be missed. There was no problem finding beds in the pilgrim hostel. I don't think the pilgrim hostel in Burgos takes...

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

Good choice to walk the Meseta. Perfect place for your "walking meditation". I used your same reasoning to start in R'valles about this time last year. Taking a couple of clear days to walk the Napoleon route could be a rewarding challenge, but otherwise, starting at the bottom of a big hill...

Exploring Pena dos Corvos on Camino Francés

I wonder if "Cruce Momientos" refers to Cruceiro, a junction marked by a cross, about 100 meters west of Moimentos. A Pena is about 500 meters west of Mirallos. The path rises to about 660 meters elevation at this point, just east of Mirallos. If you are looking for an elevated panoramic...

    Winging it freedom

It can take a lot of research to not have a plan, but the most laid-back people have the freedom of no plan. Like the guy who took yellow arrows in a shopping center as a sign to go to SJPP at the earliest opportunity. In SJPP he met a total stranger, from a different country, who’d just been...

    Winging it freedom

Murphy was an optimist, so the best way to ensure that plans don't go wrong is not to have one. It is by far the most relaxing way to travel. The frequency of Albergues, on the Frances in particular, make it very easy to to have no plan. Itis an extremely relaxing way to walk.

LIVE from the Camino Between Sarria and Portomarin

We particularly enjoy young groups walking. The kids we met were always polite and respectful. I also appreciate the student who said "It (the Compostela) is for the resume". I always recall the guided tour group, compete with Credentials, sweat bands, gourdes, day packs, scallop shells and...

Advice on "parts to miss" so I can Experience Arrival into Santiago

Perhaps starting with the purpose of your Camino will provide the answer. There is a qualitative difference in a continuous walk. If you really want to walk over the Pyrenes and see Pamplona then perhaps you should do that and then take a bus or train to start your camino in Burgos, Sahagun...

    Camino Irritants

A friend with Tinnitus has had good results, at different times, with; wireless earbuds, speakers in the temples of the glasses and sunglasses, wireless bone hearing device, and even a wool hat with some sort of built-in speakers. We've had success walking in quieter shoulder seasons, and hope...

    Camino Irritants

“Along our walk we once again successfully engaged in the social Camino that the Francés is.” Quote in another thread. Reasons peregrinos sleep in tents include: walking with an animal, claustrophobic, find Albergues stressful, or just wanted a good night sleep. 😊 Irritants? Benches covered...

Disparities between Wise Pilgrim and Brierley distances

Is there a guide that enables more opportunity to talk to more sheep, goats, cows, horses, donkeys, cats, dogs, bees, butterflies, birds and even insects? More casual conversations with new, kind, considerate friends? :)
