I remember the part that's crazy is very short and was doable for a portion sliding down on my butt.
What gave me more angst was crossing that stupid bridge....
The two times I have walked the meseta I've had life-changing insights and made life-long friends.
A word of caution however. I also struggle with heat issues and I've only walked it in early November/ late October. not sure I could do it in August....
As someone who set aside enough time for their first attempt and failed miserably (bad footware + being an undiagnosed parkinson's person) I have total empathy with those who walk in stages. My second attempt took me from where I left off (Santo Domingo) to Santiago, this time with better...

Dry conditions remote location. Would be interested in hearing from any pilgrims in the area. I'm 10 days out and long since left SJ.
I went the sim card route with a Vodafone prepaid sim card bought at Madrid airport . Been a hassle. Data now not working. Am in Pamplona and have to delay start tomorrow so I can go in person to the Vodafone store. RRRGGG!
For four years my goal has been to go from SJPP to Roncesvalles over the pass. Trained for it, did what I thought I needed to do
But when a gust of wind nearly blew me over I knew it was time to pack it in. Made it to orisson(which is now closed for renovations) where the friendly owner called...

I'll be there in 3 weeks, hopefully adequately prepared.
I'll be a day behind you - bummer! My third time on the Camino this time of year. Weather -wise I would advise you to be prepared for cold rain but the majority of days likely to be lovely!
I have traveled alone 2x mid-oct to mid-nov. Always there were others. A compromise I discovered is using gronze.com to find albergues with private rooms. They're fairly common. Buen Camino!
For me the spiritual climax was not Santiago but the cruz de ferro. So much so that on my next 25-day Camino I believe I can make it. Commercialization, crowds, etc. It just didn't move me the way the ritual of the iron cross did. Ultreia to each his own Camino.
I enjoyed my walk through the Meseta but not sure I'd spend a second night in any of the towns. too many other towns with more interesting places to visit.
I have a free day Sunday in Burgos and would love to make a side trip to Silos. Having a hard time finding transportation options. Hotel says there's a bus at 5:30 but not a return bus.
Also would there be a service where I could hear the chanting live?
Thanks!
Had to hop off in Santo Domingo. One Black and blue toe + bad blister on other foot. Need to rethink footwear. Life permitting I'll be back next year same time!
