    Roncesvalles or Burguete?

We were very happy with our stay in Burguete, but I will always walk further for a less busy place.

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

We found that eating the larger meal around 3 after we were in for the day worked well. Dinner tended to be either tapas or something picked up from the grocery store.

    Caminofacil’s weight limit is 20k.

    Reverse daily luggage transfer

I have a tentative arrangement with Caminofacil for a reverse transfer from the central to coastal Portuguese routes for 2 days. The quote was more than the regular cost, but was a reasonable cost, would be worth checking with them.

    Orisson & Borda

We had the same thing in Borda, one person walked up and decided he wanted to walk further.

Courier service for transport of medication from SJPDP

Check out a product called Frio wallet, it worked great for my diabetes medication

    Auberge Borda

We stayed there in the fall of 2023, a great experience! Laurent is very kind, makes a tasty meal, and he responds quickly through email. You can take a break at Orrison on the way, as you can’t check in until 3. It books up quickly though, so make your booking as soon as you know your...

Just for interests sake, what was your budget?

Hornillos accommodation recommendation not meeting point

We stayed as the Casa de Abuelo. The garden area outside was nice, but I would eat elsewhere.

Where does the bus to SJPP drop you off?

You have to walk a bit to the pilgrims office. We were dropped off right beside the river, close to the Hotel des Remparts.

    When do prices go up?

Although I really appreciate the information on Gronze, the price mentioned on the site does not necessarily match what is being charged, especially through booking.com. Useful though for sorting out which is the most and least expensive options.

Booking Albergue Borda for 2024 now open

You will get there by early afternoon, that is with a long stop at the balcony at Orisson. You can’t check in at Borda until 3:00.

LIVE from the Camino The September Wave: Increase in Pilgrims and Availability of Beds

Interesting, we just spent 2 days in Santiago ( Monday and Tuesday), and it seemed much less crowded than previous years, both in the main square and the streets in the area. Didn’t bother with a compostela this time.

A very wet day on the Camino Frances!

From Burguete to Zubiri was the same, picked out way through the shale and what turned into a riverbed with a torrential rain going on. We saw some unfortunate souls without waterproofs or footwear without any kid of grip. A memorable day, for sure…

Favourite Accommodation Splurge along the Camino

You can book the pilgrim rooms in advance, but you must email or phone them to do so. All of their rooms book up early.

FYI: Cash vs credit card on the Camino Frances in 2023

I prefer to pay cash, as I don’t like having to face credit card bills after a trip, but it seems post Covid there is a move to credit card use. With some of our pre-booked accommodation, the credit card is charged in advance.

LIVE from the Camino FRANCÉS: Flies, spiders, isolation & roommates: not what I expected!

Between the lines, I see that spending all those hours with your roomie is also part of the issue. Also, she is not happy when you “ tune out” with your phone. One suggestion is to purposely separate from her for some times ( I’d like to do some solo contemplation as I walk for a bit- I’ll...

2 weeks to end in Muxia

You could start in Vigo, walk the Spiritual Variante and continue on to Santiago, Finnesterre and Muxia.

Logrono - Winederful Hostel & Café versus Albergue Albas

We happened to be in Oia ( Portuguese Coastal), at the time of the festival. The owner of our accommodations warned it could be noisy. At 9, hordes of teenagers gathered under our windows and celebrated noisily. At 11 my friend and I gave up, got dressed and went out to join in, there was a...
