Question on Visiting Santiago de Compostela for 1st time

I don’t remember what we ate - the menu is limited I believe, all I remember was that I enjoyed it (and the wine) and went back another year

Question on Visiting Santiago de Compostela for 1st time

Two suggestions for time in Santiago other than the obvious. You can take a tour of the Cathedral roof - you need a reservation - but you know you already know when you will be there. Find out if that is available as sometimes it is not. But well worth it. If you leave the front of the catedral...

    Camino Phrases and Titles

I hate that noise too, but I couldn’t walk without my poles. BUT I have big nobbly rubber tips on them all the time so as not to annoy anyone (or at least I certainly hope I don’t)

    Dragonte route

I've walked the Pradela route twice, thoroughly enjoying the views and the chestnut trees. We did notice last October that there appeared to have been some extensive forest fires over on the hills that the Dragonte must go through. After walking through the section on the Primativo last month...

Any idea whether it is possible to walk the Napoleon route on this year around April 19th?

I've stayed there twice, they were pleasant to deal with both times, and wine came with the dinner.

Has anyone completed the trail on inline skates?

Hi Michael. I like to walk, kind of end of conversation for me. But there are a lot of people who bike it, some just as an enjoyable long distance bike trek, some with a similar spiritual intent as some of us walkers (but not all). I guess what I'm trying to say is it's the attitude or spirit...

Where to go for medical Foot help in Leon, today!

Hi - I went to Nuestra Senora de Regla Hospital, just around behind the Catedral with similar problems. The foot doctor spoke some English, and was very nice. They x-rayed my foot for stress fractures, diagnosed it as plantar fasciatis, and he gave me a shot of cortisone or something similar...

    First Camino, many questions

Hi Miguel - we are flying out of NYC on Sept. 4, and staying at Orisson Sept.6, so will be a day or so ahead of you, but plan on slowing down once over the Pyrenees. Hope we will meet up. I checked my backpack with hiking poles collapsed inside them last time, and am planning on doing the same...

    Which stages would you skip?

I would maybe bus to Astorga from Leon, which is what I did to complete the camino. After a boring start to that day, I loved the scenery all the way into Molinaseca. There to Ponferrada is pavement and road and boring, so if you could get a bus for that part it would save you a couple of...

longing to be on the road again!!

My husband said when I came back from the camino in October of 2013 I would never walk it again (I don't remember saying that!). What are we doing this September? Doing it again, and he's coming with me this time. And I believe there has not been one day since my return that I haven't thought...

    Albergue etiquette

Also if you are travelling with someone else, "mate" your boots so both are different sizes and types. Then tie them together. And I collapsed my poles each night if I had to leave them in the bin, figured it made it harder for someone to mistake them for theirs.

You Know You're Going On The Camino When...

One of the nice things about this forum is having members strewn from one end of the globe to the other, so that all of us night owls don't feel idiotic about liking or posting things at 3 am And I still convert distances here into kms, thinking "well that's not too far, I could have done that...

    Preferred/Nicest Stretches of Camino Frances?

In Palais de Rei there was a choral group, I believe from France, practicing in the church just before I ate my jamon, cheese and bread (and wine) dinner in the garden outside. Delightful. The following day there was a robin hoping along in front of me making all these great chirps. The same...

    Preferred/Nicest Stretches of Camino Frances?

I think my favorite stretch was from Astorga (although not the first part with the endless pylons) up to Rabanal, Acebo, then down into Molinaseca. The mountains were beautiful. Then the stretch from Villafranca del Bierzo (took the right hand high route - a las montanas) to Ruitelan...
