I have stopped at this church every time I've walked the Camino, but I can't remember the town except that it starts with an F and it's in the last 100km. Does anyone know where it is?
I walked at night one time on my second Camino. I was in that town with the church that has the shape of a shell behind the altar in their church (It has to be 20ish km from Santiago) , and I chose this Albergue with no A/C. It was rather big—maybe 150 beds? And they were all in the basement...
When I did the Camino Portugues last summer, I used the Camino Ninja App quite a bit. It was very helpful in finding accommodations, as well as where there were bars/food to plan stops. I will say that the list of accommodations was often not up to date on whether a place was open or closed...
Hey, All!
I'm planning for a Camino next summer (2022), and I've been wanting to do the detour to see the Eunate Church.
Does anyone know if it is currently open and/or if it will be open next summer?
Also, how well-marked is the detour to go and see the church there? This last actually...
Catholic Pilgrim here--So, a Holy Year, like previously mentioned, is a year when St. James' Feast day (July 25th) falls on a Sunday, or when the pope declares a holy year (2016 was a holy year because the pope called it the year of mercy--if you traveled to various pilgrimage sites/churches...
I stayed there on my first Camino in Sept. 2013, and it was kinda eerie to be there in one of the buildings but have empty ones all around us. I remember that it had really good laundry facilities, though, and loved being able to wash everything in a real washer. There was a really nice...
I will arrive in SJPDP on the 3rd, but won't start walking until the 4th. I'm going to be a turtle this time around, so I don't know if we will meet, but maybe...keep an eye out for me. I will be the one with the 2 walking poles and the bandana on. I have a forum patch on my backpack, but I...
When it comes to excess stuff, maybe when we donate it, it can be sold for cash when it is truly something that isn't of use to a pilgrim. Dunno....maybe a second hand shop would be a good idea to think about in the pilgrim house's future...
I don't expect to do the Camino a 3rd time, but after my first Camino wherein I got Tendinitis and had to skip a huge bunch in the middle, when I reached the pilgrim's office to pick up my Compostela, I burst into tears while waiting in line--the blubbering, body wracking sobs, snot all over you...
My first Camino, I started in Burgos, walked to Sahagun, and then had to skip to O'Cebreiro because of tendinitis. This next time, I'm starting in SJPDP, but will be shooting for ~15km/ day because my tendons are still an issue, even 3 years later. I'm not even trying to take the Rte Napoleon...
My first time, I flew in and out of Madrid, took the bus to Burgos, and then the bus from Santiago back to Madrid.
This time, I'm flying in and out of Madrid again, but will be taking the train to Pamplona, then the bus to SJPDP. I will likely take the bus back to Madrid again, since it is...
I did something similar on my first Camino, but I was trying to change socks in the only shaded part around at the moment when it happened...having a pack on your back changes your center of gravity. :-P
So, I'm about a month out from my 2nd Camino, and because of foot issues, do not plan to even attempt the Route Napoleon, in spite of the fact that it is supposed to be the prettier of the 2 routes. I also plan to stop for the night in Valcarlos.
First, has anyone walked this way, and can...
http://www.urcamino.com/ is a great website that can help you stage yourself...it asks some basic information about your trip, then gives you the places that best match your walking plans. Just click on the Planner link. Also, if there is someplace specific that you want to stop, but it isn't...
Just a note about walking poles....mine started out with rubber tips, but they wore through about a week into my walk. I didn't see a sporting goods store in Leon, and I missed all of the other major cities because I had to skip to O Cebreiro. I didn't like the noise either, but there was...
So, here I am, about 4 days away from finishing my first Camino, and I am already saying things like, "on my next Camino..."
I already have plans to add a Camino fund category to my budget. Am I crazy?!!
Blessings,
Ruth
This is interesting, because I am at the other end of the Camino and have yet to have trouble finding beds... 2 nights ago in Ventes de Naron, I was the only person in my albergue and had the whole dorm to myself!
Blessings,
Ruth
I am currently about 12 km from Palas de Rei, and have found tears to be my most faithful companion. When we seek the questions we need to answer in this life, we must often wade through the tears to find them.
Blessings,
Ruth
