Last minute advice for solo traveler

politeness and a smile will work wonders, the basic phrases in Spanish ..hello, thankyou ,good day etc will be all you need before the person you talk to replies in English :) as others have said, chances of feeling lonely are slim unless it's what you want. I have always set off on my own and...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Infrastructure, rather than bureaucracy is IMHO what is needed The roads to Santiago have become incredibly easy to do. More information about them due to the growth of the internet, social media and the like. Package tours , bag carrying companies ... If there wasn't a shortage of beds at (...

    Best route into Burgos

Turn left at McDonalds IIRC for any that still need the info Not all of the camino will be pleasing on the eye or enjoyable either so you may need to adjust your expectations. At least most of the city walking is flat

First Camino - Nervous and with questions about the start

Book beds until Pamplona if you can and are happy with the distances involved. Start walking when you want ( I also walk early ) you won't always get a lay in with Albergue noise. You can't help but meet fellow pilgrims, many of whom will be a bit nervous and first timers you will be fine...

Switching between variants at El Burgo Ranero

Romans were all about organization, not footwear :P I like doing the Calzadilla route, might not be much to see or do, but there are definitely less people about so that may be a plus to some of us

If you had to choose to skip a part of the route. What would be your choice?

If I absolutely had to ... then perhaps the entry and exit of Leon. Like others , I would think you have plenty of time to achieve your goal , assuming getting to Muxia by your birthday is it

    A Beautiful Memory

All my best camino memories are about the albergues and pilgrims. I make more of an effort since my first trip to keep a note of where I stayed and who was there, most pilgrims don't walk my pace so I rarely see them again thanks for that Annie

    Memorable Meals

It's always the people... for me that's what my camino is all about. The good the bad and the ugly.

Best day to leave Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port ?

All I would say is maybe avoid the weekend ... or if you are wanting to stay in Pamplona, the weekend might be busiest ? and then adjust your starting date to coincide or dodge depending on preference at certain times of the year, loads leave from Sarria and arrive in Santiago on Thursday ...
  20. markie6

    Sarria too busy?

the section you refer to is I believe the busiest section of the whole CF. Some nerd ( sorry folks) will arrive shortly with % for you but if you wanted a week of peace and quiet contemplation, IMHO you might be better thinking of another route
