Starting CF April 1st and jitters just hit me...

So excited for you. What a time to go over, you may go over some snow drifts on the mountain if you take the Napoleon Route. The Amis St Jacques in St Jean will let you know if it is manageable though. Just remember to take food with you, when I went up over up Valcarlos I did it all excited...

How do people adjust to home after their return from the Camino?

I've struggled these last few years, been changed, thoroughly in a hidden way. God was there but I was in the darkness, unable to see. My heart was suppressed, my tongue pressed down and my throat tightened. In loneliness I'd let the dark in and was going under. Then I started walking; a day...

What is the one Albergue that you would say not to miss

Granon, what an amazing night I had there recently. You go up stone steps into the albergue. The men slept on the level with a door from the sleeping area into the suspended choir loft. The middle level is a communal kitchen with a long table and shared meal. A fireplace is there for dinner...

    walking from Bordeaux to Santiago

I just returned from this way. I would like to share some thoughts. I walked alone from Bordeaux, south west to Biganos then along the Voie Littorale / Voie de Soulac down to Bayonne. Then I met my younger brother and we walked from Dax to Muxia. Firstly, Thank You for your help and advice...

Handicaps? – Preferential treatment in albergues?

Just seconding some comments here, I walked the Camino Frances last June and it happened occasionally that a person needed a bottom bunk, there was always someone willing to move on up to the to bunk. Most people when asked honestly and kindly would swap.

Leaving Sept 10th and have some questions

RE Purifying Water, Agua. You can purify your own water. Bottled water manufacturers use Ultraviolet light to purify water in bottles. By purify I mean the UV light kills bacteria, viruses and protozoa that cause water-borne illness. You can now buy hand held purifiers and you place them into...

Catholic Mass on the Camino Frances

I have found a page that lists the archdioceses in Spain http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/dioce ... w7.html#es From that page you can find the office webpages for each diocese. On those pages you should be able to find the HORARIO DE MISAS I am guessing that means, hours of the Mass. ie...

Leaving Sept 10th and have some questions

Anniesantiago, I had to have a chuckle at your sneaky window opening. We should give this maneuver a special name. I learnt to do this as well. Wait until they were all asleep (snoring was a great indicator) and then slowly, slowly open the window from my upper bunk next to it. The first...

Hello pilgrims, I'm going to walk from Bordeaux in early September this year (2011). I walked Tours to Bordeaux then SJPP to Santiago last year. It's grand, but damn those stretches on the roads! Talk about Penance. I want to try the way on the coast - La Voie Littorale - then get the train...
