I get really frustrated with people that call starting somewhere other than St. John "cheating." Who are you cheating?! Is there a test at the end that I don't know about?
I started in Pamplona because of time constraints and don't regret it at all. I didn't feel like any less of a pilgrim...
I took a water bladder because I found I drank more water with it... it was much easier for me to stay hydrated with the tube next to me, versus having to try and reach behind me for a bottle. It was worth the extra weight to me. However, water is available every few miles, so it's certainly not...
I remember reading that before my camino and I got a bit nervous, wondering if this trip I had planned and saved for for a looooong time was going to, well, suck. But what I quickly learned was that it's so much about your attitude, and after rereading that article, I realized that the things he...
My husband and I finished our camino on November 1st and stayed in private accommodation the vast majority of the time. When we first started we were indifferent, planning on staying in albergues most nights and hotels now and then when we felt like we wanted a bit more privacy. After about a...
I started October 5th from Pamplona, and I walk incredibly slow so I often don't get to my destination until well after 3, and there have been a few days I haven't arrived until closer to six. I've never had a problem getting a bed, but I was told that had I left just a few weeks earlier (mid...
I leave October and I'm scared/nervous too, but I think most people are :) I just keep telling myself that it's MY camino, and if one day is too hard or I need to take a break/rest day, or can only walk half the way one day, that's okay. There is no such thing as doing it wrong.
At least I hope so!
I'm doing the Camino in October and I've started to get a bit nervous about being cold at night... are most of the albergues heated? I'll have a sleeping bag, but it's pretty light (40F) so I'm just wondering if that is going to be warm enough for me? With heat I'll be fine, but if that's not...
Re: Question about FOOD and water on el camino frances
Did you really carry all of that?!? If so, holy moly, how heavy was your pack?
And here I am stressing out about bringing two pairs or pants AND a pair of shorts!
Thank you everyone for all the great recommendations! It sounds like MULTIPLE lightweight layers is the way to go. Still torn on if I do merino wool or lighter fabric, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Off to REI this weekend to try on/stock up!
Well, I'm pretty petite so I'm trying to keep my weight down as much as possible. As far as shopping in Spain goes.... a reason to buy something new?! It won't be remotely traumatic for me (though I don't know if my husband will agree!) :)
Hi everyone,
I'm walking the Camino in October 2013, starting from Pamplona, and I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out my packing list when it comes to staying warm.
I had planned on bringing a very warm and thick fleece (the northface windwall -...
Thanks so much for the info! I'm actually planning on staying at a hotel my first night to recover from jet lag, etc. Is there anywhere I can get a passport without having to stay the night? I think I read that there was an office somewhere in Pamplona?
Hi everyone, I'm new to forum and it has been an immeasurable source of help for me ever since I started planning. I'm starting the Camino from Pamplona in October. Will I be able to get a pilgrim passport in Pamplona (and where), or will I need to get one in advance? I know this question has...
