@Elisha Above is all good advice, so I’m not going to repeat them. Just get out there and start walking. Maybe the first few days you don’t manage so many kilometers, but go slowly & work out your own rhythm.
And above all, enjoy it. Savour it. You’ve spent so long planning. Now is the time to...
@RayoDeLuna, I'm just about to finish my first Camino (I walked the Frances, with 100km of the Le Puy route to begin with). I've met several parent & child walking couples (& one of my sons walked with me for a few days). It's a wonderful experience & I wish you both a great time together...
I'm presently on the Frances (just outside Leon) & the beautiful weather we've been enjoying vanished on Friday & the temperatures are cold & windy. Brrrrrrrrrrr.
My thoughts & prayers are with the families of these two pilgrims. Such a tragic ending to what must have started as a great...
I really agree, Barbara, & since I live in France (Haute Savoie), I decided to start 100kms from SJPDP along the Le Puy route. I thought this would give me time to 'warm' up before the Pryenees. But I still found the first two days (I stayed over night in Orisson) BRUTAL!!
Suzanne :-)
Unfortunately my brand new trail shoes are showing signs of tear in the fabric (after only 400kms). The manufacturers are ready to send a replacement pair out to Spain. I was thinking that Leon would work (I'll be there in about a week/10 days).
Where could I have the shoes sent pending my...
I'm presently on the Camino Frances (my first time). I've been walking four weeks now & I've covered about 400kms. I would support recommendations on:
- core exercises to strengthen the core muscles; - using an Aarn backpack (although you may have already decided/ bought your pack);
- using...
Wanted to let everyone know that there's a new albergue in Castildelgado (which is about 7 km after Grañon & about 10 km before Belorado).
Called Albergue Bideluxe, it's on your right as you enter the village - Calle Major 8, 09259 Castildegado (Burgos). It opened in August 2016; tel +34 616 64...
Not necessarily @Yellowfriend, it means go slowly to begin with. Stay at Orisson, or go via Valcarlos. Or take the shuttle to Orisson, leave your rucksack, & return to SJPDP then walk to Orisson the next day but without the weight of your rucksack, or start at Roncevalles, or...... there are...
Spanish saying: «Para llegar a Santiago de Compostela como un joven, empieza el Camino como un viejo» – If you wish to arrive in Santiago de Compostela like a young person, begin the Camino like an old man.
In other words .... take things slow to begin with.
Suzanne :-)
Ah. You must be the American with five children that was mentioned tonight at the dinner table. I arrived at Gité du Cambarrat in Argagnon (Via Podiensis) & ate a meal with 9 Frenchmen & women who'd met up with you along the way. I'll be a few days behind you as I gradually 'warm' up to walking...
That's my intention @Viranani in order to have a 'run' up to climbing the Pyrenees, I'm opting to start at Argagnon (about 70-80 km inside France along the Via Podensis), to give me a few days to acclimatise on flat terrain first.
Would love to actually start from my home outside Geneva but...
Already so many offers of help/ support/ information, so I'll just welcome you to this forum but, more importantly, welcome you to the Camino. In whatever shape or form (or route) you may take, you're in for a GREAT adventure.
Ultreia. Suzanne :-)
I can't help with your questions, @CaminoKate0214 (although the suggestion about taking just a handful /token amount of ashes sounds like a good idea), however I can send you my sincere thoughts and prayers for this dark period in your life.
Ultreia, Suzanne
