I walked from Tomar last year, from mid april.
An Irish pilgrim I met, in Alvorge and coinbriga, must have gone to the same national park, near Coimbra. We crossed paths again on the central path near Rates, and she told me of her walk in the forest. She seemed to enjoy it
Buen Camino Leah
And if you do run short of time, for extreme weather, injury etc, there's no shame in using public transport to catch up - advice from pilgrims close to me.
I was as lucky I managed okay time wise, but it's good to know that was an option.
When you have to an annual leave and air fares booked...
Like your thinking...makes sense.
Anyways, back to the subject, I'd give it a month of walking days, to complete the full distance. Some would do it in less. I wouldn't want to walk 30 plus days most days, since I like to take my time and take photos along the way.
Enjoy your walk. It's not a...
As far as i know, they are using the main central path, not the variations. How does each publication/app calculate what the main central route is??
Is the pilgrim office data the official distance?
I personally am averaging it at 460Km, plus extra Km from any variations.
Just out of...
Walked from Tomar to Santiago in 21 walking days, and one day off. Then walked from Santiago to Muxia in 4 days.
Rough maths, could have walked the full Lisbon to Santiago, in 28 days of walking.
Keeping it simple and not including the espiritual route which I took..
A random question, what...
Another option is (walking or metro) to Rubras/Vilar do Pinheiro metro to Rates to Barcelos.
The central camino from Porto is a bit industriall/urban, but not dangerous. Plus you'll get the satisfaction with the achievement of walking all the way from Porto cathedral.
Also, a camino is not just...
Started from Tomar. Have very similar feelings. Walked in April/May. Lost my camino family by Barcelos and am very grateful that I had the time to start where I did.
Just for fun let's compare walking stages.
Keep in mind that I was fortunate to have more time than you, so had started in Tomar so I was quite fit and strong when I reached Tui.
* Tui, Albergue Convento del camino
* Redondola, A conserveria. (A quiet hostel)
* Combarro, Hogar del Puerto (I...
Tui, Try staying at Albergue Convento del Camino. its down from the cathedral, on the Camino path.
An old building with a relaxing vibe. Good facilities and a friendly host, wiih an outside garden area to enjoy.
And allow some time in Combarro.
Walk by the water, by the winding streets and small squares, observe all the crosses and horreos and see if the menus at the restaurants tempt you.
Go into the supermarket if you need supplies as there are no shops in armenteria, there's a good Cafe near the...
I'm not fast nor an athlete. I take too many photos. I just find the act of walking relaxing for the mind body and soul. A few days my legs werent in the mood, most days no problems, some days I could plod along for ever.
On the less crowded part of the camino, I left early in the mornings, to...
Before adding on muxia, I had 2 free days.Nearing Tui, and finding the path a bit too crowded for my liking, I thought if I do 2 long days after Tui, and walk directly from the boat to Santiago, I'll be able to squeeze in a less crowded camino from santiago to Muxia.
And I dared myself a 34KM...
Not really a question but a conversation.
Years ago, end of 2019 I started planning on paper my first solo camino.
In April and May this year I finally accomplished that goal!
Just found my original plan in my paperwork. It was based on a 2019 guide book and what I thought I was capable of...
Awesome camino, can't wait to do number 3 next year. The sense of freedom, time spent outdoors, friendly kind people and achieving a goal. All worth it.
