I was nervous about finding the route from fatima to tomar, seemed difficult to find details now, so I took the bus! Shame on me. And there's only one a day at about 4pm so I didn't have enough time in tomar, which I really regret.
I'd skip the first 3 days and start in Santarem. Or start in Tomar and walk slower. Only my opinion but the first 3 days are a hard slog and I didn't enjoy much of them.
Well, that's a tricky one. Like you I love Portugal and want to spend as much time there as possible. Coimbra and tomar were the highlights of that section for me, but I was not inspired by the route. Way too much tarmac. Given the choice (sorry portugal) I would choose fisterra or muxia for the...
2 more days done. Coimbra to Agueda. 1st day was pretty good, some forest tracks, less tarmac. Note the alternative route out of Coimbra along the river is closed and looks like it will be for some time. Gronze says 2nd day to Agueda is the worst of all but I disagree. It wasn't great through...
So a short 2 days from Alvorge to Coimbra so i could have time to see the city. Much better route, off the roads at last, hope it continues. Rained a lot but forecast is better. Coimbra is worth taking the time to see, but you still need your energy as it certainly is hilly! Old cathedral is the...
Cheers Steve, I love hills 😁. Yeah the miles flew by this morning, even though I was drenched. Weather should turn warmer again now I think. I stopped about 5km before Coimbra so can be a tourist tomorrow. Safe travels mate.
Hi all. Currently 8 days into my Camino, in a lovely hostel in Alvorge. In those 8 days I have seen 2 pilgrims. One was Steve who i think is on this forum?
Route from Lisbon to santarem is hard on the Feet, all tarmac or gravel. Then I walked to Fatima, also tarmac. Then rejoined the Camino in...
I guess business is business so there won't be the same infrastructure or possibly the desire to cater for pilgrims. I've walked from Porto twice so although I cannot add to the answers to the original question I just want to say I've always been blown away by the welcome i have received from...
Hi sandrider. I cannot help you with the gpx file. But I just wanted to say two things. You might not need one much, just keep the ocean to the left! And if you do find one make sure it is the cycle route. It differs a fair bit from the walking route and for good reason. A lot of the walk is on...
I've seen this question before (sdc to porto) and the consensus always lands in favour of the bus. I still have to vote for the train. Sdc to Vigo then change and Vigo to Porto. It follows a lot of the route you've just walked (if central route) and I just found it rewarding to see all those...
Hi. You need to check the opening times of the office in the cathedral. The cathedral will be open but the office might not be, you need the office for the credential. Note I say office but it is just a desk to the right of the door as you go In!
Or order one from Ivar on this website. Will...
Pelerine's suggestion sounds perfect. You get the best of the litoral, can walk on the beach if you want to. Caminha is a lovely place, then cross to the lovely Valenca. Do this!
Hi Shian. I am fairly sure that is not true. The cathedral is open every day, but the office is only open for credentials for a couple of hours in the morning and then again in the afternoon. You could order one from Ivar on this site, or you can get one from most albergues.
