Sakamoto, just make sure that your backpack is fitted correctly. It needs to sit nicely on your hips without weight on your shoulders. Try them all on until you find one that suits you. This is as important as correctly fitting footwear. Buen Camino to you and your group.
We walked this Camino last year and started very slowly as it was our first big walk after my husband's knee replacement. We used the Brierley guide which was excellent. The first day we walked along the river from Porto and up the coast to Matosinhos, 16km, day 2 to Vila do Conde about the...
Walk out of Porto following the river and up the coast to Matosinhos. From there to Vila do Conde and then head to Rates to pick up the main route. Make sure that you stay at Casa de Fernanda but you must book in advance. Brierley's guide is most helpful.
We did this Camino in June last year. The route is described in Brierley's 2015 guide and well marked from Vila do Conde to Arcos & Rates. A lovely Camino.
We stayed at the Xunta Albergue in Tui in the "heart of the historic centre" (to quote Brierley).
Recommended. I agree with SabineP about Valenca being very touristy.
We walked up the coast from Porto to Vila do Conde (over two days) and then to Rates to pick up the central route. Lovely walk, lots of accommodation options and well covered in Brierley's book. Jacki.
We stayed at Dixo's Hostel in Porto good location (Rua Mouzinho da Silveira) and reasonably priced, including breakfast.
Fantastic view from the rooftop deck and common room. Recommended. Jacki.
No, Albertinho, I only walked from Porto to Vila do Conde (the stretch that CukaUJ was asking about) in my Tevas. I wore Salomon boots for the rest of the Camino.
Take the metro from Porto to Matosinhos and walk to Vila do Conde. No beach walking, no sand, just boardwalks. Then walk to Rates, the signposting is fine. Buen Camino. Jacki.
