The monastery has triple rooms if they are available.
After the boat ride, we had a leisurely lunch and walk through the market in Padron and then made our way to Picarana where we stayed in the Pensión Glorioso. It made for a shorter walk into Santiago the next day.
Hello, I am thinking of rejoining the Portuguese Coastal after Valenca. There is a train, but it looks like a nice walk alongside the Minho. It looks like you could cross the Minho by bridge near Vila Nova de Cerveira and walk on the north side of the river, avoiding the need for the ferry...
My suggest for the Espiritual is to break it up, especially with bad knees. You can easily overnight in Combarro, Armentiera, and then Os Castanos in Ribadosa, it is a lovely route.
We stayed at a few apartments on the Variante Espiritual ( available on booking.com) and used Caminofacil. We had checked with the apartments, who agreed to be contacted by Caminofacil, and let them in ahead of our arrival.
One of our favourite days was the stretch from Vigo to Redondela, some beautiful views, a relatively short 16k day, and you qualify for a compostela. Vigo is easy to get to
usually 7 or 8 € per bag, sometimes a discount for multiple bags or multiple days. Check with the providers for details, not all providers cover the Variante Espiritual
You can walk along the coast and stay in Matosinhos, then walk to Vila do Conde the next day, or you can take the metro to Matosinhos and walk to Vila do Conde the same day. Then it is easy to switch back to the central route.
When we were there last year in April the Livaria Lello had huge lineups to get in. It’s pretty small so they limit the numbers, but you can book your spot to get in. Maybe not so crowded in the winter
