Hi CaminoScott,
Something to look into, in 2017 I walked the central from Porto to Santiago. I spent a very enjoyable evening at Albergue Quinta Estrada Romana.
In a conversation with the proprietor, he mentioned that the only way he could keep the dampness out of his establishment and home...
Or, if you walk the central, stay at the Hotel Aeroporto and start walking from there.. You can easily walk to train station to visit Porto and the cathedral, get your stamp and tour the town.
The hotel serves a nice breakfast.
John Brieley's guide will give you the route pass the airport...
You will start out on cobble stone streets, from time to time on smooth paths or roads and again cobble stone and a stretch of rough trail. If you have tender feet and uncertain footing then I suggest shoes or boots that support your ankles. Also rubber tips on your poles if using them, keeps...
I use three sources, Windy, The Weather Channel and SAT24, which covers Europe and is a web site. The first two have apps. Between the three I can cobble together a current and reasonable future forecast, which includes radar and Sat. imaging.
I stayed at Hotel Aeroporto, visited the Cathedral got my first stamp roamed the city and then returned to the hotel. The next morning I walked out the door turned right and walked to Rates. Original I thought I would take the metro to Vilar do Pinheiro but it was easier to just walk it...
I walked it in 2019 and my recollection is that from Padron to the Albergue La Calabaza del Peregrino in O Faramello was not all that nice and from O Feremello into Santiago I thought was a grind.

An easy walk from the airport. You can walk to the train for a trip downtown the next morning and if you wish you can walkout the door turn right and start your Camino as I did.
Hello, you can take the B line from the Trindade station to the Vilar do Pinheiro station, walk NE on the main road a couple of KM and pick up the Camino to Rates which is about a 23KM walk. If not then the coastal route.
I walked out of the Hotel Aeroporto to Rates last year about this time...
Hello, I planned for 10 days and did it in 7 including the variant! It was 36 C, 98 F for most days but not humid. I walked out of Porto along the central route on 7/4/2017. The year of drought and wild fires. This year has trended cooler and wetter!
I recommend 9 to 10 days and highly...
Hello Guy, I walked the central route from Porto to Santiago this July and found it very pleasant.
Yes, there are cobble stones but they are square not round so I found them easier to walk on.
The accommodations were plentiful and sufficient.
I am 65 with a cranky hip and knee; my last Camino...
Hello jogwalker, four weeks ago I walked out of Hotel Aeroporto, turned right and followed Brierley's route up passed the airport runway curving over through Vilar do Pinheiro then turning left near Mosteiro. The way is very will marked from there. If you wise to feel more secure about you route...
