Congratulations Jan. my advice would be pack light, get in some long walks to break in your boots and your feet before you go and learn some spanish. you will have the time of your life on the Camino - it will exceed your expectations and you will make some close friends in a very short time...
holly my suggestion is take two credit cards and make sure you let credit companies or banks know you will be out of the country and then test drive your cards on atms as soon as you get there. you are off to a great adventure. buen camino
trish, one other thing i forgot to mention is give yourself plenty of time on the camino, 40 days is not too many. what happened to me was i would often get to a place, like pamplona, i wanted to spend more time, but by the time i got there i was so tired i didn't want to do anything but sleep...
