I have walked on the Camino Frances twice in April. One time (2008) it was quite warm, and another time (2009) the weather was rather cool and grey. Last spring was about the worst in a hundred years, but it was a real anomaly. As for accommodation, I had no problems in getting a bed anywhere...
Glad to hear that you got home safe and sound and that you were kindly treated. What a disappointment that must have been for you. However, I suppose that faced with such an event, pain and temporary disablement make the previous desire to walk 400 miles fly right out of the window.
