    Carry-on packs

Having only two previous Caminos, I guess I’ve been lucky. Just hate TSA lines, lugging carry-on bags down narrow aisles and squeezing them into overheads. I’ll take my chances.

    Carry-on packs

Hey Monty, just my two cents. There are may be a couple of items in my gear that would be problematic getting through TSA security checks if my pack were carry-on (e.g., pocket knife). I also hate unpacking my pack at the TSA line if there is an issue. So, I’d prefer to make my pack checked...

    One-Way airline ticket

Howdy Monty! I’m in the same boat. I booked a one way ticket to Paris to start my trek first week of September from Le Puy-en-Velay to SJPP and on to Santiago via the Francés. While I do not want to be tied down to a hard return date, I feel better about having a refundable/change-able ticket...

    Paris to SJPP

Good Luck, Frank John. I am looking to the day I can finally hang it up and head out for my own two month Camino adventure. Buen Camino

Air & Ground Transport to Sarria

Thanks, understood. I guess flexibility is the key. BC, Mike

Air & Ground Transport to Sarria

I should arrive Sarria 14 May, rendezvous with buddy and press on morning of 15 May.

Air & Ground Transport to Sarria

Hola Peregrinos! I’m walking CF from SJPdP in mid-April. A buddy wants to join me at Sarria to walk the last 100KM to Santiago. He’s flying from Orlando, Florida. Can you recommend the best city for him to fly into and mode of ground transport to Sarria? Thanks!

    Easter start

Thanks, GT! Might be a case for "discretion taking the better part of valor." I expect I will be jet-lagged and out of sorts from the previous day's travel from Florida to CDG and crazy puddle jumper and ground trans to Bayonne. The hill can wait a day.

    Easter start

One more thing: If I can ask anybody on this thread. I expect I will arrive in SJPP mid morning on 17 April 2020 after spending the night in Bayonne. My flight has a late arrival time. Would you advise heading off right away on Stage 1 to Roncesvalles or staying the day and overnight in SJPP...

    Easter start

I was puzzled by the email, sent in Spanish, and read and translated it again. It appears they're closed for repairs through mid-March - at least that's what the automated email response said. Regret any alarm caused.

    Easter start

Hey Skyedog, I laughed out loud at your sleeping in a church doorway imagery. Hopefully it won't come to that. I'm bringing a lightweight sleeping bag just in case in might be chilly. God love you for taking care of your parents. I lost my dear wife to Younger Onset Alzheimer's - 8 years as a...

    Easter start

Hi Skyedog, I booked my travel commencing 3 days after Easter, expecting it to be maybe a little calmer, and plus, being a Catholic deacon, I'll be a little busy during Holy Week and Easter :). So, I'll be a few days behind you. I'm hoping to make it all the way to Roncesvalles on my first...

Picking a date for my return flight

Andrea, I am watching your thead with interest, as I plan to walk a hybrid of the Frances/Salvador/Primitivo in the Holy Year 2021.

    Flights to vigo from Dublin

Hi Michaela, as an alternative have you considered the last 100km of the Portugues, starting at Tui on the north bank of the Minho. Fly in to Porto and take the train or bus to Tui. Not nearly as crowded as Sarria and the final stretch of CF. Buen Camino.

    JFK Layover

Groan - I feel your pain.

    JFK Layover

Padre, if it’s the same airline, can you request them to check your begs all the way through at your starting point? That way, you could sprint between gates/terminals - sans bags, if you needed to.
