I made that connection in 2022 and the transfer was on the same platform —just on the other side. Super easy. Trains in Spain are pretty reliable. It’s a small station. So it may be enough. If you’re nervous, spend the night in Leon near the cathedral and leave the next day. A fun option...
I'm researching this as well. In the past, I've stored extra stuff at Atocha, but the last time I walked they had a 2 week limit! I'll be trekking 3 weeks this time. Any updates on that? I've searched the web to no avail. the Atocha site has no info about storage limits. It's expensive...
