I stayed at the Ten to Go hostel in Barcelona about 100 m from Barcelona Sans. Very easy to catch early train to Pamplona. I stayed there on my return. Louis, the manager, stored my excess luggage for the time I was walking.
I walked with a South African woman in 2019. We booked accommodation along the way as needed. She had a SA passport and didn't need to show accommodation. Why not pre book but then cancel and change once in Spain. I had a similar situation to get a visa for China.
I stayed at Ten to go hostel. Over the road (almost) from Barcelona Sants main train station. Clean, inexpensive comfy beds, lots of pilgrims stay there and Louis will store your extra luggage while you "Camino" until you return.
We bought ours at the bus station just before we left. The was a line of pilgrims and the more tickets you bought together, the cheaper they were. Didn't take long for us to all " become friends" in one big group.
We did ask a local. Also checked with the shop behind the bus stop. It was only after the person concerned called a taxi did another local tell us of the alternative stop.
Double check that the bus stop is the correct one. We waited for a bus at Hospital de Orbigos at the designated bus stop on the main Street which never arrived. Later found out that every second day the bus route is along the next street. Not even the bus timetable on the shelter gave us that...
