One thing you could consider is staying San Sebastián. Catch train back to irun early in the morning. Not far and cheap. They start early. Irun is a bit of a dump. 😂😂😂. San Sebastián is fun. You can leave you pack and just day pack it up the hill. Bit easier start to day one. Just a thought.
I always think the perfect solution might be BOTH. Book a night at Albergue but only if they do a good shared meal. Then also book a night in Pension. Get a bloody good nights sleep for your first day. Best of both worlds. Meet great group and get a good sleep. Let’s face it Irun is a bit of a...
You will love it. One practical tip you might consider. The first days walk out of Irun is a great one but up a decent hill. The day we did it we hit pouring rain so we delayed a day in order to enjoy it. We had already booked our accommodation in San Sebastián so we took the coastal train from...
If you get to Oviedo make sure you hear the nuns sing in the evening. Not at the Cathederal but just around the corner. If I recall correctly standing facing the Cathederal head hard left walk to the end of road where you will hit a T intersection. Turn right. Walk to next road. Entry is on your...
One small tip. Irun is honestly a bit of a pit. But the walk from there to San Sebastián is one of the better days. ( do hill route for view) We stayed in San Sebastián and caught local train back to Irun early in morning. 3€. Starts early. You can leave you pack in San Sebastián just take a...
We stayed in Irun however as we went to leave that morning the heavens opened all day. Ended up catching train to SS. The next morning we caught local train back to Irun to start walk. I liked the first day. Great sea views. Good coastal walking. Stay in SS and train back early in the morning...
No perfect solution but (not to be horrible) Irun is a bit of a shit hole. Not many redeeming features at all. One idea could be to move on to San Sebastián and then take the early coastal train back to Irun first thing in the morning. They are cheap and start early. You could then leave your...
