Just a comment about the road - first, there was very little traffic as it all uses the new auto via that you can see. I guess I saw one car every 10 or 15 minutes. And if I remember, there was a wider verge on the opposite side - I crossed over there for the photo.
I was there last month. There was a choice to leave the road and follow what looked like a pretty but longer route down along the river. I opted to stay on the road and walk through the tunnel. Perfectly safe.
I just completed the Via de la Plata/Sanabres last week. Mostly the scenery was lovely; there are some steep pinches; I generally stayed in municipal/Xunta albergues and it wasn't a problem.
Some towns/villages with albergues don't have dining options, so do some research and be prepared with...
My life journey also has some pretty ordinary and uninteresting periods. I sometimes feel like skipping over them and jumping to a more exciting part.
I hope this doesn't offend anyone - that's certainly not my intention. But on what is called in the English speaking world 'Palm Sunday', and...
I left Sevilla last year on 28 April and walked as far as Salamanca. I carried a light sleeping bag and a cotton/silk liner. I used the liner a lot, but not once the sleeping bag.
This year I start on the same day again from Salamanca. I'll be leaving the sleeping bag at home. I think.
I'm from near Brisbane. I walked Seville to Salamanca in April/May this year, and will (hopefully) return to complete this pilgrimage in April/May 2023. Happy to try to answer any questions you have.
I read a sign somewhere on the route that explained (in Spanish) that the yellow indicates the Camino de Santiago and the blue indicates the Roman road. The two together and you are on both!
Yes I must have missed the Aussie wave. Some hospitalieros/as did tell me they had received groups of Australians. I just didn't meet any at all. Not that this is a problem, just an observation.
And you are right - it was a wonderful time to walk. I'm looking forward to continuing on from...
Hello
This year I walked about half the Via de la Plata, starting in Sevilla and finishing in Salamanca. That was all the time I could spare - I'll be back to finish this on Sanabrese, my third Camino, around the same time next year.
I left Sevilla on 28 April, and arrived after 22 days (no rest...
I have to say...I am on my fifth day of Via de la Plata. I can tell you that there are a couple of big wave of hikers and pilgrims. Sometimes albergues are complete. Today we had to walk a further 6km to find a bed. Some groups are organising themselves into taxi groups to shorten stages. It's...
Thanks Kev. I think I successfully admitted you! Now I just hope the stars all line up and I get to go!
Next step along the way - I've ordered the new 2022 edition of the Wise Pilgrim guide from Ivar's store.
For my previous Caminos, I created a facebook group where I posted a daily record of the day's journey, plus a few photos. I'm really not sure if you will be able to see them but they are:
Graeme Hall on the Camino to Santiago
and
Graeme's Camino Portugués 2019
I would be happy to invite you to...
I finished my first Camino in May 2018, a month shy of my 70th birthday. One more (Portugues from Lisbon since then) and still feeling fit enough to be confident approaching los 74.
