When I was scouting out the Augusta it did seem quite boring after Jerez. A lot of that land used to be underwater not so many centuries ago and has been reclaimed for agricultural purposes, so it's flat and monotonous. I was going to go blast through as quickly as possible in 3 ~30km stages...
Before you get browbeaten into doing the Via Serrana (I kid) I do think the Estrecho (as I did it) is quiet nice and much better for accommodation. The sand can be a slog when it's soft but you also get a cool sea breeze, pine forests, and a great Roman site.
As for your specific questions; yes...
The Via Augusta goes from Cadiz to Seville via Utrera. The Camino Estrecho goes from Algeciras to Cadiz. There's an albergue in Tahiville on the Estrecho, but otherwise nothing. You can read up about them on the Augusta amigo website.
I walked the Estrecho recently, though I really just made my...
Hi all
Was scouting along the via and I came across this place. It's not on gronze, nor was it mentioned in the virtual planning thread. In fact as far as I can see it hasn't been mentioned here at all. They have a website that triggers a security filter I have installed on my browser or a...
Oh that's good, I was getting the impression it bypassed Salamanca for some reason.
Turns out it used to also go via Zamora on it's way to Astorga. The greenway terminates into the active railway line near Salamanca station but the disused section can be quickly found again just northeast of...
Hi all
I'm reading through the virtual VdlP and this is something I didn't see mentioned.
One version I can see from this hiking map would be to follow EX-370 from Carcaboso up to the elevated roundabout. A dirt path then branches off, going under the motorway. 8 km of tarmac to get to that...
I had a quick scout on google, red line is the VdlP, blue is connecting the villages listed. If nothing else, it seems like you could roadwalk most of it? Wouldn't be unfeasible to rejoin the VdlP either, google makes it 40km from RdA to Bejar, maybe it has a future as a monotony-breaking...
Well said, you me and the people who have been walking the VdLP for 2000 years. Two other bookends I had in mind for this route were Baelo Claudio, a ruined Roman town a little west of Tarifa, and the Roman lighthouse near A Coruna; I liked the idea that way back when a traveller (or maybe just...
All the way from Tarifa; I did some research on the Via Serrana as an alternative to the Mozarabe from Malaga since on balance I thought I would rather see Seville over Cordoba, if I had to choose. From there it was just adding another day to see Africa for sure from Tarifa, then adding more...
Glad to hear it and I hope it goes well, you're more or less scouting ahead a route I had planned out for March/April lol
I think you might benefit from making a post on the ruto del mar subforum. I haven't been able to re-find that kml file and the people who have walked it should be able to...
Sure!
The main resource I found for this was @Magwood's blog, she did the Ruta do Mar (which is a variation on the Norte which sticks to sea instead of heading inland after Ribadeo) in 2016 and included this detour as a circular trip...
Are you planning on a) getting to Santiago via the Sanabres and b) planning on ending in Santiago? If not, the most northerly point in Spain isn't too far, if you'd like to bookend your Tarifa start. It would be backwards on the Ingles, then a little further backwards on Ruta do Mar. I can send...
