    Wearing glasses when it rains

This is my solution, too. My eyesight is deteriorating and I cannot wear contact lenses, but as long as I am not driving and can perceive the yellow arrows, I go without.

    Hiking skirts ... For men

Oh, such temptation! Man in kilt in Swiss setting.... But, I will have to be patient and wait for another opportunity, at another time, perhaps my longed-for return visit to NZ.... But, also, just in case, I am actively planning my own return, to resume the Chemin d'Arles, possibly April 2024...

    Hiking skirts ... For men

Can I start by saying, I just love this particular thread! I cannot remember seeing any men wearing kilts or skirts on my 2 (so far) pilgrimages, but it would have made me happy if I had. Now, for the specific, I have never walked (pilgrimage) in anything other than a skirt. You can see most of...

    Footwear on the plane

And yet, (as I say to my family in Texas who refuse to visit me in Oz, "because it's just so far away"), and yet, here I am visiting you in Dallas! But, nowadays, forget Dallas, I will fly non-stop 14 hours, then another 6 or 7, to walk a Camino/Chemin - and feel privileged to do so. And...

Packing Toiletries for Lightweight Travel on the Camino de Santiago

Or, bring a small roll of "dog-poo bags" for that purpose (lightweight and available from any pet supplies shop).

    Best all purpose soap

Nope, Dr Brunner's is also available in Australia. I prefer the sandalwood version. I used it for hair, body and washing clothing. It does tend to be a bit harsh on hair & face, but smells pleasant!

Walking in a "skort" (skirt/shorts hybrid)

Thank you, Jill, I did click on that icon, and then chose the photo from my gallery, and even clicked 'thumbnail' when prompted, but the image still looks enormous on my post, I don't know why! I do appreciate your helpful advice and the image you sent, though. My main intention was just to...

Walking in a "skort" (skirt/shorts hybrid)

I wish I knew how to attach just a small photo, as intended (above). My earlier reply seems to indicate a big ego, but please understand, it's just big ignorance of tech matters!

Walking in a "skort" (skirt/shorts hybrid)

I wore the same "Running Skirts" skort paired with a merino top over 33 days in Sept-Oct 2018, handwashing at the end of each walking day (same skirt, alternating 2 identical shirts). I purchased it at a local hiking shop in Adelaide but noted there is a (US) online shop, Running Skirts, and...

Camino Mask is the new Camino Buff

Of course, I was forgetting the fun factor. And, it IS lovely to see all the creativity emerging amidst the gloom.... sorry I snapped. But, honestly, home made masks may make one feel more cheerful but they will not protect you from the virus. So wear in good health, but do not rely on them...

Camino Mask is the new Camino Buff

Pretty pattern but cotton, stretchy fabrics are ALL USELESS as protective equipment. No point wearing any mask unless they are 'single use' - dispose of it after use (or boil it before drying it for reusing). And, yes, the masks are not to protect the wearer, they are to be worn to prevent...

Help! The walking pole makes me feel like the walking dead!

Believe me, I am not a rapid walker, nor even a particularly fit one! I walked the CF as a spiritual journey and the poles permitted me to walk safely, at my slow pace (very very slow on the ascents), without injury. I was still recovering from myocarditis last year and I live with chronic joint...

    Dare I post this?

Chocolate peanut M&Ms or similar, for energy and to share along the way. By the last couple of weeks, I had mixed M&Ms, sultanas/raisins and sunflower seeds all together, was living off of these.

Arrrgh. . . It's Too Red. Will It Be Like Carrying An Easter Egg?

Yes, from Latin, related to "life," "living/alive."

Arrrgh. . . It's Too Red. Will It Be Like Carrying An Easter Egg?

What was it HH the Dalai Lama wrote? Something about doing a new or challenging thing every day? I take this to mean, moving outside the comfortable, known and familiar routines and accepting change. It ain't easy, esp when applied to age-related changes, but perhaps it is good to be challenged...

    SIM card

The reason some of us get a different SIM when in Europe is that ALL calls you make (on your US plan on international roaming while in Europe) will be charged as international long-distance, even if you are phoning ahead to book an albergue 11 kms away. If you think you will be using your phone...

To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

Sorry, just realised you'll be walking in May, not July, but I still believe your hair will air dry from the warm weather, even in May.

To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

In July, on the CF, it will be hot. You will be covered in sweat when you arrive at your accommodation and you will probably want to shower ASAP. Then, you will want to wash and hang out your sweaty clothes. Often the clothes washing facilities are a sink or trough in an outdoor area at the back...

Help! The walking pole makes me feel like the walking dead!

I started walking with poles when I joined a Nordic Walking group, recommended by my physio. Nordic walking is an established and beneficial activity/exercise in Northern Europe and much-promoted by physiotherapists and exercise physicians. It was a good decision for me, to support therapy I...
