I have been amazed, but Oxyclean Odor Blasters has alleviated that problem for me. I won't buy polyester again, but until it shreds off my body, this works for me.
I haven't been able to find that model yet, but I walked a few weeks of the Camino Olvidado this spring in the Hoka Speedgoats and loved them. I destroy the liner in the heel counter very quickly, but I tend to do that in all shoes.
Victoria,
My recommendation is take the cell phone. I walked the Del Norte April-May this year and used the Buen Camino Editorial ap for maps/description of route. Loved it. It works in airplane mode so doesn't use a whole lot of battery. I always knew where I was and easily found my way back on...
I used REI short gaitors in April and May on Del Norte. Loved them. Essential. I used an Altus poncho and Macabi skirt. Didn't need the rainpants although it poured.
If you aren't carrying a tent, pad, cooking utensils (which you don't need anyway) these packs are too large. On both of my caminos I used the Osprey 35 liter. It was perfect.
I agree the bladder is heavy. I am going to experiment with a different setup. I still have a couple of weeks until my trip. Will rig up holder for Ultimate Direction Softflask Body Bottle. Weighs 36 grams for 500 ml. See picture. I will post results after I try it out.
Interesting. I went the superlight supermarket water bottle route on my last camino. Most days I finished with full bottles. It was hard to get to, I had a small cup that I used to get water at the frequent fuentes on the Frances. This year I am walking Del Norte and plan on using 2 liter Osprey...
I have been walking/hiking since Sept. Without poles and am getting along ok. Fly fishing and using poles cross country skiing for me often times leads to tendonitis (tennis elbow). I don't need the poles on flat pavement, but they are definately a plus on steep rugged terrain. I HATE the sound...
Or sent to Santiago to pick up at the end. I sent an expensive lightweight down bag to myself in care of correos (post office) because it weighed too much and didn't need that warm a bag)
I walked March 27-May 12, 2016. I carried too much and jettisoned alot at Leon. What worked for me: I used poles. Because of the poles I needed gloves. I used lightweight fishing gloves with finger tips free. They were more than adequate, worn start to finish. I carried 5 pairs of socks, 3 PHD...
Altus raincoat. Available along the camino. Light weight and covers the pack. I highly recommend it. You can take your arms out and hang it over your pack like a cape in intermittent rain.
Hi. I walked the Frances from SJPP to SDC last spring from March 28 to May 12. It rained almost the entire first month, at at least some time during the day. Frequently the sendas (paths) were flooded or muddy. I wore non-waterproof Moab Ventilators the whole way. Only one blister for a couple...
I also walked SJPP to SdC last year. They worked great. I had one blister before I built up a callus (probably due to my rigid orthotic rather than my shoe). In the final days and for weeks after I had some nerve pain on the outside of both feet. I am excited to heAR the come in wide. I would...
I love the Hoka One One, but I would be concerned about the high risk of spraining an ankle in these on the substantial amount of walking on stone and while carrying a backpack.
