Last summer on the Sanabres I had a day of walking in clouds of little gnats/bugs (the worst I've ever experienced!). During the walk I passed an older Spanish couple out for a stroll, and they gave me a bunch of leaves to fan the bugs away from my face as I walked. At one point I had it tucked...
I use a single, wooden hiking stick for every Camino and I love it! For my first Camino, I bought a stick at one of the shops in St Jean Pied de Port (and was happy to have it for the Pyrenees crossing). On every other Camino, I've found a stick as I'm walking, and it's become a fun tradition...
I brought one on my last few Camino's, and mostly for vlogging (which I recently started to do). I have to say, the times I used the selfie-stick, I really liked the resulting photos/videos. BUT, it was often easier to just pull out my phone, hold my arm out, and hit record. Those videos are...
Oh my gosh @peregrina2000 , I had no idea about that tab with the extra info! Gronze has become my go-to when planning Camino's (and also while on the Camino), and this tip was like opening a treasure chest. Thank you!
Thank you all for your quick replies, and the reassurance that it would be okay to try (I’m the person who somehow set a Jetboil on fire while camping, so I can never be too careful)
In any case, this must be a bit of Camino magic because I just tried the coil again and it worked!! Let’s hope...
Coming back to this thread with the regrettable news that I just plugged in my electric coil before submerging it in water. What was I thinking?! Clearly I wasn’t. Here I am, on just the 4th day of my pilgrimage (currently on the Camino Vasco- what a treat! And then will keep walking on some...
Thank you for such kind words, @davebugg , and for giving a "shout out" to my blog and YouTube channels. Labors of love, for sure, and I just love sharing my Camino/walking experiences.
I came back to this thread yesterday to get a link for my latest video... all about the waist pack I carried...
Months and months later... this is the waist pack I bought! I used it on a short Camino last month and really loved it :) Thank you so much for sharing what worked for you, @Wanderingfriend !
Not only does this thread contain so, so many helpful tips and recommendations for waist packs, but we've also segued into some truly good conversation around safety/security AND the nuances of language. Always a good time on the Camino forum!
But seriously, I've appreciated all of these...
Thanks Laurie, it certainly does feel like a quest, doesn't it? Your recommendations and personal experience are so helpful!
(so glad to know that your waist pack- much like the electric coil- is an indispensable item for you).
Seems like I've committed a faux pas, thank you for the heads ups and I even managed to figure out how to edit the title of this thread!! Waist pack it is ;)
I appreciate this perspective... I'm thinking mostly about the utility of one for walking during the day, when I'm not generally concerned about theft. I've seen some models that double as a cross-body, which seems handy for post-walk wearing.
Thanks for linking to this video, very informative! And that's a good point about whether or not a bag is waterproofed... it would certainly help if it was! But a ziplock bag inside is a nice solution.
Hi fellow pilgrims! Does anyone out there use a fanny pack/bumbag when walking the Camino? (well, I know some of you do, I've seen them out there!) I'm looking to add one to my Camino setup, and it seems like it could be super convenient to stash the things I might need throughout the day...
I know this is repeating some advice already given, but I walked the Primitivo at the end of July this year, and I NEEDED my sleeping bag! And this was in July! It was unseasonably cool but I would have had some very cold nights if I didn't have it with me- not all albergues have blankets.
And...
Lots of good info already here, but I just have to chime in, given that I’m recently back from a Camino adventure on a less traveled path, and my power bank was so great to have. It’s a newer addition to my pack list and I think worth the extra weight. I have an older iPhone that doesn’t hold a...
