    Gaiters

That is a personal choice. Used to always wear gaiters but have gotten out of it last couple years. But I have a new pair of shorties waiting for me home-so I’ll be in them again. I just love keeping my socks clean from the sand, gravel, and needles from the trees that get into boots and...

Useful item but hard to justify in your pack

Ah yes a universal sink plug. Keeps me happy with contact lenses. I just bought couple new ones in France-much lighter than ones in USA. Pack towels-have traveled through Nepal, Canada, s America, & USA. Very absorbent and one can wring it dry. Weighs far less than any towels. Wouldn’t...

Useful Items from the Dollarstore to take with ? On a budget

Don’t skimp on rainwear. In a downpour for couple of days you need gear to hold up. Get Gortex. Pricey but will last. Get the Pak Towel in sports store or the chami from an auto store. Definitely a Swiss Army knife. Mine is always with me home or away next. Buen Camino. Orford Girl.

    Clacking Poles

Hi I have Leki adjustable ergonomically poles with the spring. I hike with friends with adjustable and have never heard of this problem. Do you have them adjusted to max on both bottom and top. This could create an instability. Good luck. Orford Girl

    SIM card

I would look for a store affiliated with 'Orange' and get SIM that gives you more than Spain. My friend who is on Camino with me got one and then realized that if an emergency she can not even call home (USA) with it or my phone which has a SIM but not a Spanish number.

    hiking boots versus tennis shoes

Good hiking boots from a reliable manufacturer and well fitted should be a goal. The footing, although I did not find it difficult, can be stressful on your knees and ankles. You could encounter muddy roads and ruts, slippery rocks as well as well ones, fields with stones and rocks. Good...

    Backpack safety

Hello and buen camino My rule of thumb anywhere has been don't leave what you can not afford to loose. If pack is too heavy, bulky to take all the time, try scaling down! Buen Camino Orford girl
