Hi, regardless of whether you take private rooms or not in April I would definitely take both a sleeping bag and towel. It can still be cold in April ….. even Spain!
It is obvious that you don’t want anyone disagreeing with you by asking the moderator to close the thread.
But I totally disagree with you! It takes only seconds to remove/replace the rubber feet to trekking poles, as I have done for years.
Do carry on click, clicking your way down the Camino...
In 2017 I walked the Camino mid September to mid October. I wore only shorts and on top a thin shirt and micro fleece sweater as the mornings were cool. During our Camino the weather was hot. Keep your pack as light as possible. Hope all goes well with you.
If you want only to wear long trousers, have a look at the Craghoppers range. Lightweight and windproof and comfortable. Jeans in my opinion are a big no, no.
In 2008, I carried a Nikon with an 28-200mm lens carried in a bag attached to my backpack around my waist. At night I slept with it

Yes it...
Let me assure you shorts on men are very common in Europe and equally so on the Camino. To walk in long trousers in the heat of a Spanish day would be in my opinion be horrendous.
Hi, I have used them on both Caminos I have walked. I only use a 55l backpack so to be able to compress my clothes in invaluable.
It only seconds each day to use them.
When I last walked the Camino in 2017 in September/October we had mainly excellent weather and walked in shorts . It did rain occasionally and the rain trousers were great. However, on several early morning starts they came in useful to keep your legs warm! Enjoy your Camino.
No! On my first Camino in 2008 I took loads of stuff, including a tent! At the end of the first day and together with several fellow pilgrims we ‘dumped’ in a charity box: tent, cups, plates, cutlery etc.
All the albergues I stayed in had everything you need to cook a meal…. except food!
I also...
I very much doubt it! Airlines, would I think consider them to be potential lethal weapons.
On my two Caminos, I fixed to the back of my rucksack, then wrapped the entire sack in a heavy duty black plastic bag and taped the entire thing. No problem with the airline.
Hi, personally I wouldn’t worry about the down bag.... just wash your liner regularly.
Was his down bag ‘on the move’ is something I would never recommend. You need to wash down items with a specialist down wash at 30 degrees. After washing it MUST be tumble dried at low heat with loads of drier...
I have walked two Caminos and have always taken my Marmot Precip jacket. A fantastic waterproof jacket that packs away into it’s own pocket and do light to carry. In my opinion you cannot best it.
Hi Ash,
I think here Rick Steve is referring to shoes made on a 'European last', that is shoes made to suit European shape of feet as opposed to Far Eastern foot shapes. You would need to check with shoe/boot companies if they use a European last. I think Saloman and Meindl use this last. If...
