Switching to Gossamer LT5 poles will immediately drop a pound from the weight. They are a little more expensive than other poles, but worth every cent.
I've done three caminos with exofficio give-n-go sport. For guys it is hands down my ideal choice for the Camino. Reduces chaffing and you can wash and dry incredibly fast.
For the sake of completeness, I hear your point on the pole straps but don't feel it necessary diminishes his points on shoes vs boots. I have a strong dislike for injuries and find it heartbreaking when I see people end their Camino because of any. I've done multiple Caminos and hike weekly...

So many people here are against convertible pants. I've done the Camino and several other hikes wearing only convertible pants. My favorite are from Prana. I never had any problems with my skin or irritation. They are light as air and perfect (for me). I guess it is a matter of preference.
