    ALTUS RAIN COAT

Terve, rain will get you wet everytime. The water gets thru somehow or you sweat so much that you soak no matter what you wear, but the rain will get you wet everytime. Protect yourself as well as you can and use quick drying clothes under your rain gear. Peace. -T-

    Backpacks... What else?

Terve, I´ve planning to buy Deuter Futura 32. I agree it´s "heavy" but one of the most comfortable backpacks I´ve ever carryed/tryed. Last year this model won the European hiking journalists prize. Absolutely creme de la creme. Remember that you could need the pack somewhere else too. There are...

    Another Backpack recommendation request

Terve, if the main adjustments are correct, height of of your back, width of your hip, your over all lenght, I´d say that almost all the modern hiking backpacks are qood. A good backpack fells good on your back, like a well fitting shirt. You feel the weight but no pain. You´ll get use to carry...

    What do I wear?

Hello, I checked in local outdoors shop these out door Crocs. They certainly have thicker sole and they could work well on a flat ground. I´m afraid that they don´t have support to your feet sideways. I think I have to try them myself (on a flat trail). -T-

    Socks and sandals

Hello, as a diabetic my doctor told me never to wear any shoes without socks, including sandals. So we have developed very low cut socks that are the same colour as your skin! -T-

    What do I wear?

Luiza, I agree with you about the crocs. They can be painful even without blisters. They are way too soft against the hard and stoney ground, you´ll feel every little stone and pebble under your feet. Sure they are easy to carry but you need something solid, socks or no socks. -T-

    food - utensils

It´s aiways the same question of choices. How much is one ready to "suffer" from heavy load for the little (but important) joys of life? Or how much comfort a pilgrim can take along? -T-

    Hiking boots versus Approach Shoes

Hello, I have Columbia Titanium all leather hiking boots. They are on the heavy side but they keep walking by themselves even when I´m too exhausted to walk. Vibram soles are marvellous! -T-

    Sleeping Mats

Re: Sleeping Mats & Sleeping bags Hello, I´ve been seaching answers to my questions before my first camino. I found that the "Equipment" section is very helpfull. It´ll take time to go thru it but it´s worth while. -T-

    Sleeping Mats

Hello, I´m thinking the same thing. It´s quite puzzling, isn´t it. I figured it out so that it would easy to be on the safe side and take lite mat with you. -T-

How to train for the Camino?

Hello Sillydoll, what a lovely name! I think I manage. The physical training isn´t the hardest part. At this momoent it is quite hard just to wait June 2010 and count the days. I think I´ll get the extra time to practise more. Walking is kind of therapy or meditation. I used to listen to music...

    Hanging hooks

Hello, how much is one prepared to suffer for the little comforts of life. Even in the life of a pilgrim. You have to make decicions with every little item. -T-

Sticks and poles - what to do....

Hello, I´ve been told that the best aid you could get from trekking pole would be when going downhill with a load on. I know that nordic walking with two sticks will increase the pace and you start to take longer steps. They are not to be used with a load on your back. Originally they are for...

How to train for the Camino?

Hello, planning my first Camino in 2010. I´ve been hiking more than 30 years in Finnish Lapland and Noth-Eastern woods carrying all my gear includung food supplies. The load is usually 25 kg.My trips lasts about ten days. Never done anything to compare with the Camino, walk on a daily basis 20...

    Two pair of socks

Hello, as an experienced hiker I`d highly recommend everybody to wear two pair of socks at the same time in their boots. Never mind the heat, it´s better to sweat than to have blisters. I know that you can use even socks made of cotton, but under them you have to have polyester socks. It works...
