Personally I found a poncho was the best performer as a pack cover and a rain coat.

Don't bring cotton if you want it to dry fast. Depending on the camino you are doing, the humidity levels could be higher or it just rains all night and nothing dries. You could see more rain getting in to the fall or you may not... that's the weather!
