I solved the problem you referenced by putting it in the back of the CH-53 the Marine Corps issued me after flight school. There is a great deal of irony in the fact that 30+ years later I decided I LIKE to walk with a pack:-).

I am leaving tomorrow and I just got my convict haircut. Long hair, short hair, still ugly:-). I went for convenience. The haircut and the new beard could reasonably be described as "wasted":-).
I am late to the discussion! I have three Tilleys. My T4 is my choice for the Camino since it is my 3 season hat. I also have an Airflow with the shorter brim I would be taking if I was going in the summer rather than next week. This will be the T4s third trip across the pond, best hat I have...
I have a shell from Ivar, but I have a shell/cross patch I got online that is on my pack. I velcroed it so I can use it on other packs. I might add my pilot's wings name tag to my patch since we all carry our pasts. Some of that past I will lay down at the Cruz de Fero.
I have been using my shemagh since last summer, and it is coming with me. It is like the Swiss Army knife of scarves. It also works quite well in warm weather as a head covering, especially if dampened down.
