Trekking poles: Folding vs. Telescoping - Which one is the better option?

Although I have used folding poles in the past, I am now using telescoping poles for two reasons: 1. I've become a fan of Pacer Poles (http://pacerpole.com). All their models are telescoping. 2. I have an Osprey backpack with a trekking pole holder, which works very well with telescoping poles...

Do you carry an umbrella for the Camino?

I've just bought this exact model from Euroshirm with the silver reflective fabric. I haven't used it yet on a Camino, but if everything goes to plan I'll be using it on the Meseta in September. I have attached it to my backpack, just to try it out, and it seems robust, comfortable to wear, and...

    Trekking Pole Suggestions

Mine are carbon fibre (the dual-lock model). I'm a recent convert to pacer-poles and I've fallen in love with them. I had a chance to really check them out earlier this year when I walked the Camino Portugués and the Camino Inglés. I also used them for a few days on one of the Jakobsweg trails...

    Keeping Shoes Dry

You may find @davebugg's write-up very interesting. I plan on acting on his advice during my next camino. No more waterproof boots for me  https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/shoe-and-foot-strategies-when-walking-while-it-is-raining-and-wet.54565/

    perfect for the Camino

No. Perhaps for some other people, but for me no. I was a bit tempted when the presenter was able to pack the suit into a case the size of a pill box, but even if this is not a joke - sorry NO.

    Sleeping bags

Yes! I would definitely take a sleeping bag on the CF in March. Temperatures can be very changeable along the route and some albergues do not have blankets. In May 2014 I ran into snow and freezing temperatures crossing into Galicia. This was after 30+ degree C temperatures on the Meseta between...

Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

On the way to Zubiri from Roncesvalles in 2015 :). The boogie woogie bugle boy of Alberge B? Glad I stayed in a different albergue that night. :D

    trekking sticks vs hiking staff

I use hiking poles. They give me more power going up hills and stability going down. Another advantage is that I can collapse them and attach them to my pack whenever I want to walk with my hands free. I've never used a single hiking staff, so can't really comment on the advantages of using...

    Cooling Underwear

I wore ExOfficio boxers on my last camino and loved them. Super comfortable and quick drying. I'll be wearing them again on my camino this year. The problem with cotton is that it takes ages to dry after you wash them. In my humble opinion, you can't go wrong with ExOfficio boxers.

Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

The first day of my first camino, back in 2014, I was leaving SJPP and passed a man pushing a cart up the mountain - no pack on his back. He had all his gear plus about 25 hard cover philosophy books on the cart - sort of like a shopping cart with tiny wheels. He intended to walk the whole way...

    Backpack recommendations

I'm a big fan of the Vaude Brenta 40 pack http://www.vaude.com/en-GB/Products/Backpacks/Brenta-40-black.html. This is a German brand. I've walked 2 Caminos with it (Camino Francés in 2014 and from my house in Switzerland to Santiago in 2015.... and will be walking the Via de la Plata with it in...
