Identification of a Cross Along the Road between Javier and Sanguesa

Fr. Jeff, you were in my thoughts along the way. This time I found the dolmen and the entrance to the witches cave near Villanua. A highlight was to see the progress on the Canfranc train station!

Identification of a Cross Along the Road between Javier and Sanguesa

Thank you Rick for sorting this out! I walked the Aragones for the second time this past September-October, this time with a walking companion who was in total awe at everything he saw. I absolutely would walk the Aragones again but our plan is to walk Finisterre-Muxia later this year, if...

Identification of a Cross Along the Road between Javier and Sanguesa

Is anyone able to identify what this cross is about. There are several similar of these along the roadway between Javier and Sanguesa. This one has the inscription, Los Mozos navarros a javier, seminario concilar IV centenaoli.

    A Truly Happy Story

Yes, I did have a reservation in Ruesta, I called two days ahead.

    A Truly Happy Story

During September/October my partner and I walked the Aragones. Unfortunately due to his previous back injury we had to take a taxi for parts, which turned out to bring a blessing. Two years ago I walked the Aragones and stayed one night in the albergue in Artieda, right next door to the lovely...

    Walking to Monasterio Leyre

For those who have walked up the mountain to the Monasterio Leyre.... I have walked up to the monastery via the highway. I see that there is an alternate path that starts just slightly east of the highway and zig zags a bit. Is there a preferred path? What differences are there, besides the...

LIVE from the Camino Live from Camino Aragones

Hello Friend @rappahannock_rev ! I agree that we had a most pleasant meeting over tea in Santo Domingo! I have not yet visited the Witches Caves nor the dolmen but they are on the must see list, perhaps as early as this fall! I will keep you posted!

LIVE from the Camino Live from Camino Aragones

@Ungawawa You might find this to be interesting, an aerial view of the "quarries" or badlands between Artieda and Ruesta. This was taken during a sailplane ride from the aerodrome at Santa Cilia.

LIVE from the Camino Live from Camino Aragones

@Ungawawa ,After I wrote the message to you I had to do a little research to refresh my memory. Yes, those "gray dusty rocks" are badlands! They are too far north to be included in the Bardenas Reales. And the quarries are near Tiebas. You have seen and experienced much of what makes the...

LIVE from the Camino Live from Camino Aragones

@Ungawawa , I am wondering if what you are referring to as gravel quarries is actually fringes of the Bardenas Reales or badlands which dominate landscape further to the south?

LIVE from the Camino Live from Camino Aragones

Ungawawa, I know that we all can understand time issues! A bit of advice for anyone who has not yet walked the Aragones. Do allow your self plenty of time for this route. I took 11 days to walk the paths that a majority of people take only 6 days for. There was so much to see and do...

LIVE from the Camino Live from Camino Aragones

Ungawawa, Your photos are gorgeous! A question or two: Since you took the train from Zaragoza, why start at Villanua instead of Canfranc Estacion? Where are the"plenty of bars" between Villanua and Jaca? I admit that I walked the alternate route, not the main Camino route.

    Camino Aragonés 2021 Questions

I can echo most of what has been written here! I took 11 days in early October 2019 to walk from Somport to Puente la Reina which allowed me time for a couple of extra stops. The Monastery Leyre has a nice hosteria with great views of Embalse Yesa from the terrace. The office gave me a key to...

From the Aragones to the Alto de Perdon

Greetings all, with many happy and encouraging wishes during this season!! I have two questions and hope that someone will have some ideas. Thank you for any responses! I hope to walk the Aragones again sometime, perhaps even this coming year. Rather than connecting to the Frances near...

Very good news. New albergue will be open in the Camino Aragones

For those of us who have walked and loved the Aragones, I would gladly make a generous donation. Is this something that Rebekah could be involved with Peaceable Projects? It would be easier to make a donation via PayPal and apply the wire transfer fees to increasing the donation.

Looking for input on difficulty, stages and your collective wisdom!

The foz de lumbier is another world, a canyon formed by an ancient river, populated by various vultures. At the base of the canyon is the river along the bed of an old railway which was long ago abandoned. You enter and leave through 2 tunnels, unforgetable! No tickets or reservations, just go.

Looking for input on difficulty, stages and your collective wisdom!

Hello Liz, I believe that there is a bus that goes to the monasteries from Jaca at 10am in the summer and returns to Jaca at 5:30 in the afternoon. Perhaps someone who has used the bus this year can give you better information. When in doubt, the tourist information office in Jaca is very...

Looking for input on difficulty, stages and your collective wisdom!

Hello, I walked the Aragones-Somport to Puenta la Reina and beyond- in September/October 2018. Some people have commented that you either have shortish or longer stages. I prefer the shorter stages because there is just so much that should not be missed, the Monasteries at San Juan de la...

Path between Monasterio de Leyre and Lumbier

A point of trivia...this route, what I am calling the high route from Leyre to Lumbier, and that Mikel Olivares recently walked for us is included on the new edition of the IGN Caminos map!!
