Did exactly that in May 2018, and consider it one of my best adventures!
Flew from the States to Toulouse via Lisbon on TAP. Gave myself a day to explore Toulouse and enjoyed every minute of it. Especially enjoyed the Convent des Jacobins -- both a beautiful cloister and the tomb of St. Thomas...
A few misc thoughts....
The Estacion in Canfranc was undergoing serious work when I visited in 2018. We were allowed to look around inside, but had to wear hard hats. It was very impressive! I'd love to see it now that the work is completed.
Best tapas in toda Espana (IMHO!) were at the Bar...
I walked the Aragones in May 2018, starting at Lourdes. Memorable experience! The vistas coming down from Somport to Canfranc Estacion were extraordinary. Don't even think about missing them! ... But there's this: There were a number of Aragones stages without any other pilgrims in sight for...
You will never enjoy better scenery than you did crossing the Somport....
If you have not walked the Frances then I suggest that you bus from Jaca to Pamplona, spend some time soaking up that wonderful city and its wonders, and then walk on west at least as far as Logrono....
Just now back from Spain -- a rather unsatisfactory Camino Ingles. Wish I'd known you were doing the Aragonese. this year Would have enjoyed walking it with you again! Godspeed! (Don't break anything!)

As I recall, the numbers began outside Sanguesa and went up the closer one got to Javier. I assumed at the time that they might perhaps have reflected Stations of the Cross for some 1950s Navarrese youth pilgrimage to the shrine of the Saint.... . Father Elias' 1985 Camino guidebook reported [p...
Hi Sparrow! I saw different crosses with the same inscription when I did the Aragones from Javier to Sanguesa in 2018, and I remember wondering about it.... Thanks for asking the question! (BTW, the man in the pic is not me.)
In re a Lourdes start --- a bit dated, but worth looking at is Anniesantiago's photo blog

In 2018 I did Lourdes/Oloron/Somport/Jaca and would do it again in a heartbeat! Most gorgeous scenery imaginable! .... Also did Jaca/Puente...
When I did the Aragones in 2018 I was walking with a group of friends. At Artieda we opted to hire a van to Leyre which took us along the north side of the embalse. We left Leyre the next day via the road down to Javier.
Enjoy your visit!
I have pleasant memories of exploring this remarkable place in 2018. And the more time passes the more I'm tempted to do the CA again.... But if they turn it into a luxury hotel I'll stay elsewhere. Like most Forum folks, I very rarely stay in luxury hotels.
Hope that you're well, Sparrow in Texas! Fond memories of our too-brief tea together on the promenade in 'Chicken Town', long ago.
Did you actually tour the Witches Caves? ... I'm toying with the idea of walking the CA again (God willing!) in 2022 or 2023, and I remember thinking -- as I...
Been there, done that.... I honestly didn't enjoy the walk west from Sanguesa very much (but then, by that time, having stated in Lourdes, I was tired and my back hurt!) ... If I were to walk the Aragones again, I think that I would just finish at Sanguesa and push on directly to Pamplona.
Give...
When I walked it in May 2018 I thought the very same thing! In the hot high summer those after-Jaca sections could be killers! ... I think, if I ever do go back, summer or not, I might just quit at Sanguesa and bus on to wonderful, decadent Pamplona.
'Cause, shucks, I'm not walking as a...
