Camino primitivo for my first Camino

I did the Primitivo as my first Camino and was a reasonably fit 60 year old female. I found it difficult, but it is doable. I did not do the Hospitales route which makes for one long day, but the other which was two days but more difficult. Although the elevation isn’t overall high, the...

Is it possible to walk the camino primitivo as a vegetarian?

I did Primitivo last year, and although I eat fish, I was able to do a lot of vegetarian meals. I HIGHLY recommend stopping for the first night in Palatin at Villa Palatino. The vegetarian dinner I had was incredible (avocado stuffed with incredibly seasoned cooked vegetables). Be prepared to...

2018 chainsaw accident near La Espina, looking for Peregrino who saved his life

Hmmm. I learned it as a 14 year old Girl Scout!

Getting into Oviedo late, best place to stay?

As another suggestion, I found a flight from Madrid to Oviedo for less than a train and hotel. Iberia Airlines.

2018 chainsaw accident near La Espina, looking for Peregrino who saved his life

I think he may have just finished his tenure there, but perhaps David from Bodenaya would know.

Villa Palatina (Paladin) - Pablo, Tatiana and all their crew

I stayed there June 2, 2022 and it was fabulous in all regards then too! I have posted on this forum several times a recommendation as a great place to stop if one needs a shorter day when first starting the Primitivo. I cannot see myself doing the Primitivo again (I found the ups and downs...

Help me slow down my Camino Primitivo

Not an expert, but I loved my experience in Palatin at Villa Palatino. From there Correllano, Bodenaya (you can experience David in his last weeks at that albergue, but call for a bed if you can). That will add a day to your itinerary.

Camino Primitivo in early July: couple of logistical questions

In the early summer I found the Primitivo to be incredibly hot and humid even when it was only in the mid 70’s. I had a rain poncho/jacket that was ultra light and had zippers under the armpits. I still could not stand the heat it trapped inside. I was more wet wearing the thing than just...

Camino Primitivo in early July: couple of logistical questions

Yes. It’s a tough hike into and out of Grado, so doing it early in day was better for me. I stayed in Paladin then La Rodriga at La Roca

Camino Primitivo - From July 2 | A partir del 2 de julio

That’s a good plan. It is a harder route with all the ascent and descent areas. I stopped on Palatin instead of Grado that first day and was happy I did!

Camino Primitivo in early July: couple of logistical questions

I did the Primitivo last June and the only place we found a credential was the tourist office. It’s well marked and is close to the central church (I confused it with the cathedral). There was plenty of water through cafes, bars and fountains along the way that I never carrried more than a...

Weather and Packing Tips for Primitivo in July

I only used a sleep liner because most accommodations had blankets. I was never cold and slept in merino wool leggings and tshirt. No gortex because it makes you sweat and sweat can cause blisters! I used trail runners and they were perfect for the very rough terrain you’ll occasionally...

Weather and Packing Tips for Primitivo in July

I did the Primitivo early last June. Although it was officially not “hot” yet, I was warm as I hiked. I never used my puffy jacket. Occasionally in the evening I wore my light fleece jacket. I consider myself to be always on the cold side and I packed my fears of being cold. Completely...

    Audi dealership or Albergue?

I stayed in the hotel next to the albergue (they offer both accounts). It was fabulous, but pricey for a private room.

LIVE from the Camino Camino Primitivo, Day by day

I did Primitivo in June and never experienced aggressive dogs. I am very fearful of them. Saw a few loose ones, but never aggressive.

Accommodation options in/near Cornellana: municipal albergue (the monastery), Roca Madre

Do stay there!!!! It is beautiful inside, well equipped, and Diego is a wonderful host! I went there in June and was not disappointed. He will reserve a bed if you call him. His English isn’t perfect, but you should learn to say the few necessary words of Spanish to make that call anyway! By...

American Airlines canceled my direct flight to Madrid / seeking guidance for getting to Oviedo as planned

I just returned from doing the Primitivo and took the identical flights AA has changed you to. I was able to make the Oviedo flight. It was a really long delay in Madrid customs and I still made it. I booked my Madrid to Oviedo flight separately because it was cheaper. Charlotte was BY FAR the...

LIVE from the Camino @Wanderlustesq on the Primitivo

Hostal Occidentte. My friend Julia is with your pace. But I’m going to go slower the next few days. My plan was to spend tonight (Wednesday) in A Fonsgrada where I have a room reservation. But I’ll probably taxi part of the way.

LIVE from the Camino @Wanderlustesq on the Primitivo

You seem to be a day behind me. I wish I had done Hospitales because the alternative route was challenging. My Camino family are quite experienced and fast walkers, so I reach the longer destinations later and later. I stayed at the Albergue Camino Primitivo Monday night, but they had no...

LIVE from the Camino @Wanderlustesq on the Primitivo

I did. Then cancelled out of fear of not making it to each day’s destination. Then rebooked day to day, but wish I hadn’t. There’s lots of options and Booking.com is jacking the rates for day of reservations. A private room went from 45€ to 134€. The place had many options available. I’m waiting...
