And those items should be in a money belt of some sort attached to your body at all times except for showering, at which time the belt should go into the shower with you in a waterproof bag.

I think you're basing your assumption on the Brierley stages, which aren't written in stone, though some seem to think they are.
Walk as many k as you're comfortable walking.
