    My New Camino Marker

Super idea! Is the distance etched into the stone? If so, I hope you're not intending to move house, or else you'll have to relocate to a point along an arc exactly 8,946.4 kms from Santiago!!!

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2016?

Last weekend I walked 17km from Liscannor to Doolin along the edge (literally) of the Cliffs of Moher. Closest I've felt to 'something' since the day at Cruz de Fero 3 years ago. Words can't describe this walk and because I don't take photos, forgive me for linking this site - it's the only...

    Our personal Everest.

If that's the case, the answer is simple - just empty your head/mind and 'project' yourself up that hillside. A nip of poteen at the top in honour of your slain foe would be more than appropriate.

    Fitness after the Camino

Two words for you NM........Tai Chi.

    Love on the camino.

Massive memory overload!! I was walking the CF at that time and remember seeing you guys several times throughout the trip from start to finish. I used to say 'hi' every time we saw each other, but we never got around to having a chat or a beer. Rocky was famous on the CF then. I'd see him...

    Finally I saw The Way

But you met a nutty Irish writer or two, yes? We're two-a-penny along The Way!!

    Traveling after the Camino

A day chilling out in Santiago is a very good idea to let everything wash all over you. After that, I'd say you'll be ready to head off to another destination. Britain has much to offer in the relaxation stakes and I've heard unconfirmed reports that they even have walking trails there too...

Smokers at the pilgrim office :-(

We had this whole smoking debate in another thread recently, so I'm not going to revisit that, but instead I'll stick to Beatrice's original point and offer a suggestion regarding signage. Instead of a 'Prohibito fumar' sign, which may not sit well with the Chapter of Canons given the law in...

    Wicklow, Ireland?

Not to expensive here in Ireland is still a good bit more expensive than the typical albergue prices you'd find on the Camino. Is there any list of accommodation and prices for the Wicklow Way?

They are about to 'digitalise' the Camino

My reading of this is that the funds are earmarked only for Galicia, not the entire Camino Frances. Some cafes/bars will have wifi, so what? Remember that the locals will benefit greatly from this technology too. For sure, the digital version of the Compostela will never materialise, so I...

    Getting Fit

Some posts have already mentioned "core" work. I can't underestimate the value of building up this area of your body. Your arms and legs are pendulums in the motion process and achieving good posture and a comfortable rhythm is the key to productive and enjoyable walking (or running). I read...

If you could give just one piece of advice?

    Don't forget your earplugs!

    a camino game

Why not give each of the family members (adults included) a notepad and pencil at the start of the trip. Each day, each member scribbles down 5 or 6 things that they see, hear, smell, think of, etc. A couple of words or a single sentence on each will do. Then, later on in the evening, you all...

    A teaser pic :-)

Exactly. Any second now a handful of hobbits will come bounding mischevously over the gate amidst a swirl of golden, glittering stardust! Nice one, Beatrice!

    Hypothetical meeting

Politics, religion and football, of course! ;)

For those of us who don't speak Greek!!

Haven't seen it yet on the Forum, but in honour of my favourite soccer team and being very apt for us, I submit.........YNWA You'll Never Walk Alone

    Forum Rules

Conversation is the lifeblood of any forum and limiting what a person has to say in any given thread is not a good thing in my eyes. Ivar's call for volunteer Moderators (I presume they will be vetted and selected by him) is the starting point here. This Forum is getting too big for one person...

VIII Centenary of the Pilgrimage of St. Francis of Assisi to Santiago de Compostela ( 1214-2014 )

My brother, who walked the Frances with me this year, is on honeymoon in Italy right now. He was going through Lucca the other day and saw a stand advertising this Camino. He stopped and had a look at the literature and it's about 2,500km in total. Would be a special year to do this one alright.

A book from you, Sir, would be a very interesting read! :)
