First of all religion is by no means a taboo topic on the Camino. The Camino is first and foremost a Catholic pilgrimage but no exclusive to just Catholics or Christians.
I found reading the Bible in Spainish a great way to learn.
When I did the Portuguese route last year it rained solid for 4 days. When I say it rained, I mean I walked for 4 days with it raining non stop the whole time. It resorted to my buying an umbrella and walking under it, (and I was not the only one doing it).
So does it rain much on other...
heard so many people complaining about this place. Some went up to some kitchen to sleep only to find others already there sleeping . Must be bad. I intentionally missed it. With Hundreds of nice private albergues on the camino is there a need to stay in the larger muncipal ones? I really...
34 km a day was ok .... It was after 5 days that thinga got bad... I was nearly hobbling ... And taking ibupro... When I do it the next time it will be 20-25 km's a day..
Again i was a little over optimistic... Pushing myself to places i had pre-booked. I will never prebook again,
Just finished my 8day 270km walk. The forum was of great help. ( i will never book an albergue again)
To all who have not done the camino listen to the posts... Its all words of wisdom that help..
Flying from dublin to santander today i checked in my bag to bring the poles, so did others or sent them ahead. since most of use had 7-8 kg backpacks seemed a waste to checkin just for the poles... But we all could have put the poles in one bag ..
Why not have a thread on those traveling on...

I would focus first on the 300 most used words in spanish, top ten verbs, it will give you a base. Then focus on simples phrases that you will use on the camino, how far to... Where is the nearest shop, can you stamp my credential etc... Unless you have a good bit of time to invest in learning...
When you are in spain you can call the local numbers from your mobile without the 0034. Also if you bring a meteor sim they have a option of no roaming costs.. Which can be handy,
Interesting I am doing 2 hour walks 12 kms at the moment with no issues, I think I will do a 30 km walk and see how it does. I know I could do 42 kms no issue... But I don't want to ruin the rest of the walk.
Hi, So is the consensus that you can't bring your fully collapsed hiking sticks on the plane? I am travelling from Dublin to Santander. my pack will be max 7kg. Pity to pay the 20 euro charge to put the bag in the hold.
Anyone got advice?
Did movie: "The Way" motivate you...
Same here, did not think the movie would be as good as it was, 100% influenced my decision to go. Lived in spain and been there many times, but this is my first camino
