    Accommodation worries — Camino Francés

Not sure why a comparison between Royalty and the commoner would be made here, unless I misspoke and the Poster is of Royal Blood? Royal Runners would be recognized and all efforts would come to bear to accommodate their needs…or is it that we, as common individuals have been elevated to a...

    Accommodation worries — Camino Francés

As a single Senior, just me now, not for everyone, but a Pilgrim never had the opportunity to book ahead. This is a new phenomenon. But, taking the day ahead as it goes, at least provides adventure as well as possibly tasking us to our limits, in a reasonably safe environment. The Camino has a...

    Rough In Planning Support

Not sure there is any reason for conflict on this thread. I mean, even some Admins are adding abrasion to the conversation. There are as many ways to walk a Camino as there are people who actually walk it. Peace be to All. Happy Easter.

    Valcarlos Accommodation

There is a bar / feria in the middle of town, on the right. Go to the Bar and ask for a bed (una cama), and you will be given a code and directions to the Municipale, if you do not have them already.

Sleeping bag or just liner (starting Frances at SJPdP on April 25th)

My go to is a Snugpak Jungle Blanket. I am your age. It is big enough that I can wrap it around me or just use flat.

Why do you want to walk the Camino?

To be honest, I could have ticked three of those choices to provide a more complete answer.

Camino Frances - First Three Nights

The Valcarlos route is slightly less demanding. Valcarlos is about 10 km from SJPP. Fortunately, once on top, the path to Espinal is fairly flat.

Too late for dinner in SJPP?

Go with what they say. I have not been to SJPP in 6 years. Things change.

Too late for dinner in SJPP?

Arrive at Beilari before 10 pm. They will tell you this. The door is locked at 10. No one will answer the door after that time. I say this as I was on the same schedule as yourself, also in August. The bus was delayed and our arrival was 10:05. Racing up to the hostel was a waste. I had to find...

Is the Napoleon Route from SJPP defintely closed until March?

Thank you for pointing out the error. The original has been corrected.

Is the Napoleon Route from SJPP defintely closed until March?

If starting in SJPdP, the only allowed route is through Valcarlos now through end of March, or longer, depending on conditions. Napoleon will not open until it is clear of snow all the way to Roncesvalles.

Mid-day start from St Jean possible?

Allow 3 to 3 1/2 hours to Valcarlos (subjective). There are places to stay if the Municipal fills up…at an added cost, of course.

Some data on booking ahead on the CF at Rabanal del Camino

So, once a next-day reservation can be made, it could be argued that no reservation may be needed.

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino Frances

That climb from the river up into Maneru finished me. It is 5 years later and my quads still hurt when palpated. Always listen to your body. If it needs rest, give it rest. A short day is a good idea, even if that is all you can do for the rest of the Camino...but that will likely not be the...

    SAINT-JEAN (1st Day) failure rate 40%?!

After Huunto, there is a chioce of continuing on the road or going upa trail off road. If the trail is taken, it brings you to the top of a hill where, no far, there is a ceramic map of the valley in front of you. Now, turn around and look for a telephone pole. There is a water tap at the base...

Do I need better rain gear? (or mental strategy for rain)

As others have said, the Altus Poncho is the Best but anything that keeps you and your pack dry in one thing is better. if something is needed out of the pack, it should be possible to get at it without having to take the poncho off. BONUS! Imagine this situation if wearing a rain jacket and a...

Emilio Estevez interview about the Way re-release

For me, double that, every year, since it came out. It turns out that Martin's Mom was born in the same town as my GG Grandfather, Borrisokane, Tipperary, Ireland. In this part of the World, two family names dominate, Hogan and O"Meara. I am a Hogan, She was an O"Meara. So, it is very likely...
