LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino Frances

I had similar feelings on my pilgrimage in 2016 -and stayed in the same spot, Villamayor de Monjardin. I got there at a little after 9am and loved just hanging around the place. I stayed at an albergue hosted that day by a couple from Germany and enjoyed a great dinner with the other guests...

    Jewish Quarters?

As you walk up the hill into Astorga and reach the Albergue Siervas de María, if you look ahead past the statute of the man with a suitcase on his back you will see an archway into a garden. That is the Jardín de La Sinagoga. There is not much more than the name to link it to the Jewish...

Where to get Pilgrim Passport in Astorga?

Yes! And a couple of pilgrim focused stores in that area. There is a tourist info office that can help you find one also.

    UK Guardian story today

I ran across this story in the Guardian and thought others would enjoy it. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2022/oct/22/camino-de-santiago-spain-holiday-walking-with-my-brother?utm_source=eml&utm_medium=emlf&utm_campaign=Email_Roundup20102022_UK&CMP_TU=mrtn&CMP_BUNIT=holys

    Why do it Again?

That was my question until I completed the CF. I am doing the Portugues route next, and then plan to move to Spain, Astorga maybe. Why do it again (and again)? Seeing and feeling the love that I encounter in a way that makes the Creator's meaning of that word Crystal clear to me like no other...

Walking the Camino Frances alone in September

As many others said, you will only be alone when you elect to be alone, and you will meet life-long friends that will change your life. I encourage you to be open to others. All this will likely become obvious within a day or two on the Camino. Calm your heart.

I was Tom, now I guess I'm Joost

Same for me. While my wife has some walking issues she has agreed to and we are planning for enjoying Porto to Santiago in April 2018 after La Fallas in Valencia in March. Plus we are planning to retire in Spain, so we will be visiting other areas of the country looking for our new hometown.

    considering canceling my trip :(

Well, you can talk to me. I do not have any idea where you are on this planet, but if you want to talk it through, I am eager to answer questions and support your Camino. I planned and talked about it for 4 years, I went not being in great shape, I quit each day for the first 5 or 6 at about...

    Climbing on the camino?

My wife and I really enjoyed a few hours walking tour with Paul and his wife Paulina. It is a 'pay what you think it is worth' type thing and Paul is a real history buff and we found it a great intro to a very walkable city. He saved us more than the cost of the tour in suggesting great local...

    CF surprises?

I encourage you not to be anxious about your surprises. They are waiting for you, they will bring tears, smiles, laughing out loud, hugging everyone in arms reach or deciding to walk alone for a day. In my experience each one taught me a life lesson or two including the meaning of love, joy and...

    Planing my camino

Doron, I know this doesn't make sense perhaps, but don't set plans so hard in your mind that God's leading can't direct you comfortably. Most things I, and I understand others, expect or want to avoid, just are not the issues once one foot goes in front of the other. Your comment about not...

    End Scene The Way

I actually started my trip in Morocco. I now wonder if I was influenced by the scene in the film. I had always wanted to visit Morocco, so it was a 50-year-old dream come true when I saw that airfare to Rabat was the same as Barcelona from my home town. I book-ended my Catholic experience in...

    Osprey Exos 58

I just finished my first Camino, the Frances from St JPdP to Santiago. I am 67 years old, not an athlete at all. I selected an Osprey Kestrel 48 based on recommendations here and the fact that I was spending a week in Morocco before walking in Spain, then going to Paris and Istanbul afterward...

    I've decided I can't win

I would say that you did win. While I am a first-time pilgrim this fall, I already feel sure that even if you walk the same path it will not be the same Camino. The people you meet as well as the places you find to sleep will be different, and of course, you will have your partner who is...

    Valley of Silence

This won't answer your question, but I could not resist saying that your condition "unless I have teamed up with wonderful folks on VDP" is likely to kick in. I found that God used all the wonderful folks to guide my steps and set my pace. It was the people on my first Camino that answered the...

    walking the camino

I too bought shoes one size larger and broke them in with two pairs of socks, in hot weather in the States. They were very highly regarded hiking shoes and they really wore the tops of my toes, can't explain it. I was fortunate to have a pair of well worn Birkenstock EVA (plastic sandals) and...

Not just sad now... Very sad.....

Lee, my plans put me a few days ahead of you (start Sept 2), but as I read your story and these responses I consider the people sharing the Camino a part of their life journey to be such a real family. How many of us have shed a tear and embraced you from a distance? Your life, and that of of...
