    Injury time out

Just arrived in Castro. My husband and I are at Pension La Mar. We are both physical therapists. If we can help let us know.

    Insurance Information

I too used Allianz. Have made a claim for returning early for health reason and they covered without hassle. From US

Can you buy a phone with pre loaded minutes on it to use in Spain?

I have limited technical abilities and no need for a telephone except to use in emergencies and to call for a reservation now and again. I have taken an older non-smart phone and have been able to get an inexpensive SIM card to work 1/3 times I have tried. Next time I will get the 30 euro...

    Rain Gear Product opinions please

The only trouble with the Altus or other ponchos is the "sailing" factor the heavier wind. I had trouble with it on the Hospitales route of the Primitivo in September. Otherwise prefer it to a rain suit.

    ClaritinD - 12 hr. tablets

I tried to buy Claritin D (loratadine with pseudephedrin) OTC and it was a no go. Zyrtec was good but it is a different drug. You can buy plain Loratadine but not the pseudephedrin part of it which is the D part of the Claritin D.

    Best Travel Insurance from U.S.

We have used Allianz with good success. We had to make a claim for an early return because of an injury and they paid the ticket change fees without a problem. We have not had to use them for medical payments.

    Heel Cracks

Another lubricant/oil that has worked for me is Tea Tree oil. Bag balm works well too.

    Sandals instead of boots

I have walked different Camino trails with my Chaco Z-1 sandals. I wear thin wool socks with them. The San Salvador was difficult because of the rocky uneven terrain and steep ascents. The Frances for the most part is very doable. Rain is an issue and you may get blisters if your feet are wet...

    Barefoot Camino?

I walked 97% of my September/October 2012 Camino Frances in Chaco sandals. I used socks in the morning and took them off in the afternoon. In rain, I had my socks on and my feet got wet but only got cold one day on the way to Fisterre. I will continue this pattern if and when I return to walk...

Ladies Choice: What shoes did you wear & pro's/cons

Out of necessity I wore my Chaco sandals 98% of the 600 miles I walked in September. At first I HAD to wear them and then I WANTED to wear them. I usually wear low trail shoes but my Chaco were great. I loved their flexibility, ability to dry, cushion, and the support was enough for me. They...

Questions about municipal albergue in Burgo Ranero

I was there in September. It wasn't cold at the time but I remember seeing a big wood burning stove in the dining room. I suspect that is the only heating that they have but it looked ample to heat the place, at least the rooms just above the stove area. I think there were sheets and...

    Why?

Or perhaps fear of loose dogs can be a survival mechanism and not crippling for those of us who have been bitten by "friendly" dogs....

    15 km before Cebreiro

I stayed here in May 2007 and found it very nice. There is a stream close by to cool your tired feet and a place to get a meal just down the road. They were very kind and welcoming.

    Ponferrada to Lugo

Is the map correct and the Camino Frances now going through Lugo?

Starting in Astorga, can I get a Passport there ??

Thanks for the clarification. I am assuming that the American Friends of the Camino, CSJ and all of the other country organization will be able to provide appropriate credentials.

Starting in Astorga, can I get a Passport there ??

I had heard at one time that to get your compostela you would need an "official credential" from Spain. I don't know if this has really turned out to be the case or not. Perhaps someone knows for sure.

    New Albergue in Burgos

I would like to know any information any one has about the new Albergue that was to open in Burgos. I can not find any current information about whether it has opened and if not, when it will open. Thanks for the update.
